When it comes to Sci-Fi, there is one franchise that usually comes to the top of the conversation, and its three-season series could last forever if it remains as exciting and fresh as it has proven to be thus far. 2026's Sci-Fi movies will see the return of some huge franchises, not that we haven't had many in theaters recently.
For instance, 2025 saw the new version of the fan-favorite Jurassic World franchise take shape, with Tron: Ares also attempting to resurrect a universe. That said, two of the biggest Sci-Fi movie franchises return this year. However, for those wanting a different kind of adventure within the genre, maybe the small screen would be the best choice with a TV show that could last forever.
Star Wars: Visions Is A Breath Of Fresh Air For The Most Iconic Sci-Fi Franchise
Star Wars is the most iconic Sci-Fi franchise of all time. Visually stunning landscapes, a plethora of planets and alien races, futuristic technology, and more ensure that Star Wars continues to keep its spot as the most popular Sci-Fi movie franchise out there, even after some divisive releases. Related to the franchise's negatives, comments about Star Wars repeating itself are common.
For instance, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, due to it bringing back Emperor Palpatine out of nowhere, remains to this day as one of the most criticized movies of the sequel trilogy. That is why I'm such a fan of the animated Star Wars: Visions, which explores the franchise created by George Lucas through a whole new lens.

Every Star Wars TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
The first Star Wars TV show released back in the 1980s - so how do they all compare, from live-action to animation, from Clone Wars to Skeleton Crew?
While live-action Star Wars seems unable to escape nostalgia, Star Wars: Visions is all about embarking on bold new adventures in a galaxy far, far away. Visions is free to experiment with non-canonical storylines, bringing emotional stories to life with gorgeous animation, thrilling combat, and different cultures reflected. Different genres also play a role, with musicals, westerns, and more represented in the anthology series.
Star Wars: Visions Could Last Forever If It Remains Consistent
While the main Skywalker Saga can't last forever, no matter how hard Disney tries, Star Wars: Visions is perfectly set up in a way that it could. The first requirement for that to happen would be consistency. Well, the anthology has proven to have that nailed down, as Star Wars: Visions boasts a 96% critics' score for season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes, with seasons 2 and 3 a perfect 100%.
Star Wars: Visions is rumored to return for season 4, though no official announcement has been made yet. Still, based on its critical reception and improvement season after season, it is hard to imagine the show being cancelled.
Besides, a spinoff series, Star Wars: Visions Presents—The Ninth Jedi, is expected to debut at some point in 2026. The commitment and quality are there, and Star Wars: Visions can never run out of stories in such a huge galaxy ripe to be explored.
