One of the wildest war movies of the last 10 years is getting an unexpected sequel. This afternoon, Sparke Films announced that it is developing a sequel to Primitive War, the 2025 Vietnam war movie following a recon unit, Vulture Squad, who are sent out into an isolated jungle to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. They soon discover that they’re not alone when they find dinosaurs are hunting them. Sparke Films confirmed that Luke Sparke is coming back for the next installment to write, direct, and produce the film, which will bring dinosaurs to the Cold War.

Sparke films also released an official synopsis for Primitive War 2:

“Primitive War 2 expands the scope and mythology of the franchise, pushing deeper into the Vietnam conflict zone where 1960s warfare collides with prehistoric predators. The sequel is positioned as a darker, more intense escalation — and more grounded war epic—continuing the series’ distinctive blend of military realism and survival horror. Set in the aftermath of the original film, Primitive War 2 follows a new U.S. platoon sent into an increasingly unstable valley, where competing kill zones, rival apex predators, and secret Cold War agendas converge. As containment collapses, the mission becomes one of survival — and the cost of failure threatens to extend far beyond the battlefield.”

Primitive War earned scores of 65% from critics and 86% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed a few million at the box office during an extremely limited run. The film has also found an audience on PVOD and became one of the most successful movies to rent or purchase at home to come from 2025.

Who Stars in ‘Primitive War’?

Jeremy Piven, famed for his role as Ari Gold in Entourage, stars in Primitive War as Colonel Jericho. True Blood veteran Ryan Kwanten can also be seen in the film as Baker, and Tricia Helfer was cast as Sofia. Helfer is best known for her role as EDI in the Mass Effect franchise and also for her role in Battlestar Galactica. The rest of the Primitive War cast includes Nick Wechsler as Eli, Anthony Ingruber as Keyes, Aaron Glenane as Logan, Carlos Sanson Jr. as Leon, Albert Mwangi as Miller, Adolphus Waylee as Xavier, Ben Corlett as Nikitia, and more.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Primitive War 2, and watch Primitive War on VOD platforms like Prime Video.
