Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Jason Statham is one of the biggest action stars around, and his portfolio is set to expand even further with his next movie, Shelter, which arrives in theaters in just a few days. The upcoming brutal thriller is sure to be a welcome return for fans of Statham, and they will be equally excited to note that another one of his upcoming films just got a thrilling update. The first film, The Beekeeper, was released in 2024, and now Statham will reprise his role as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2, with filming on the action sequel having wrapped near the end of last year. Amazon MGM Studios has now announced that The Beekeeper 2 will arrive on screens on January 15, 2027. The sequel marks the return of a beloved character and gives director Timo Tjahjanto a chance to showcase the work done on the project.

So far, plot details for The Beekeeper 2 have been kept under wraps. But should it turn out to be anything like its 2024 predecessor, fans are certainly in for an exciting adventure with Mr. Clay. Besides the release date announcement, we also know several cast members set to feature in the upcoming sequel. The Beekeeper 2 call sheet looks stacked. Besides Statham, another veteran from the original returning for the sequel is Jeremy Irons. MCU alum and Mission: Impossible star, Pom Klementieff, is also poised to join the cast of The Beekeeper 2, as is former WWE icon and Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Adam Copeland, also known as Edge. Others set to feature in the upcoming sequel include Yara Shahidi, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Bobby Naderi, and Jemma Redgrave.

With a reported budget of $40 million dollars and a worldwide box office total of over $160 million, The Beekeeper was a significant commercial success. With a 92% Verified Hot rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the thriller also received positive reviews from critics. The Beekeeper 2 will hope to replicate such a performance. The first film was released on MLK weekend on January 12, 2024, and, perhaps in a bid to replicate the original's performance, The Beekeeper 2 is set to be released over the MLK four-day holiday weekend in 2027.

What Comes Next for Jason Statham?

As mentioned previously, The Beekeeper 2 is not the only Jason Statham movie to get excited about. Shelter, the action thriller from Greenland director Ric Roman Waugh, arrives at the end of this month and brings Statham back into focus. The actor is set to be back on our screens later this year when he features in another action thriller, Mutiny, which will arrive in August. The upcoming film is directed by Jean François-Richet, who has, just like Waugh, directed a Gerard Butler actioner, Plane. Looking further into the future, all indications suggest that Jason Statham will reprise his role as Deckard Shaw in the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie, which is expected to begin production early this year.

Check out The Beekeeper on Prime Video, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of The Beekeeper 2.
