While a good portion of DC's upcoming releases are standalone entries or the first installments of a prospective series, there are three confirmed upcoming DC movie sequels for fans to be excited about. With the DC Universe timeline currently being in its earliest phases, DC's movie landscape is one that has currently has fewer confirmed sequels than in other years, as the cinematic universe is still setting itself up.
In this way, DC's current live-action movie landscape is quite similar to the early days of the MCU, with a focus instead being on establishing new heroes and stories. That said, this hasn't stopped several DC movie sequels from appearing on the near horizon for us to soon enjoy.
Batman: Knightfall - Part 2
Batman: Knightfall - Part 2, despite being the least hyped of DC's upcoming sequels, still promises to be an exciting addition to the DC movie landscape, given it adapts the climactic finale of the Knightfall comic story, which sees Batman and Bane face off in seriously dramatic fashion.
While this is an undeniably interesting prospect, Batman: Knightfall - Part 2 ultimately has less excitement around it because the first part of its story hasn't been released yet - meaning there's no litmus test for what the quality of the second half will be like - and because it is in the end a story that audiences can already experience via the comic, unless it makes some drastic and arguably unwise changes to the comic's narrative.
Man of Tomorrow
It is worth addressing that Superman and Man of Tomorrow director and writer - and DC Studios co-CEO - James Gunn has stated that Man of Tomorrow will not simply be "Superman 2", meaning it's not a conventional follow-up in many regards, even if Gunn also himself has called it a sequel at the same time.
However, it's also undeniable that Man of Tomorrow is a clear spiritual successor to Superman, given it follows on from the story of Superman, and features two of the same central characters in the form of Kal-El himself, and his nemesis Lex Luthor, who appear to become reluctant allies against a greater threat to their world.
Given the considerable positive reception for Superman itself - and the hopes for the DC Universe and the stories it tells - it's doubly not surprising that there's already considerable hype for Man of Tomorrow, even if its July 2027 release date is still over a year away.
The Batman Part II
While The Batman: Part II's hype has been challenged by the project's delays - which led some to for a time believe the film may even be canceled - the sequel to 2022's The Batman is still one of the most looked-forward to superhero movies of the next few years.
With a sleek combination of the kind of gritty take on the Caped Crusader that made The Dark Knight so endlessly beloved, and a commitment to leaning into the gothic side of the hero and making the adaptation have its own strong ambience, The Batman easily instilled a cavalcade of excitement for a follow up - especially since its ending showed the biggest battles were yet to come for its hero.
This alone would have stood The Batman: Part II in good stead, but every ounce of good will The Batman established for the series was ostensibly doubled by the success of spinoff sequel show The Penguin, which served to bridge the gap in the timeline between the two films, and showed just how engrossing and layered this universe's exploration of Gotham and its denizens could be.
Though it comes two years after its initial release date, The Batman: Part II is thus arguably the DC sequel fans are the most excited to see - especially since The Batman series is seemingly only intended to be a trilogy, meaning this installment likely contains the central part of this particular Caped Crusader's story.
