EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios has landed rights to Elise Kova‘s #1 New York Times bestselling fantasy novel Dragon Cursed for feature development.

Dragon Cursed is just the latest project of many set up by Premeditated Productions under its first-look film and TV deal with the studio. Published by Entangled Publishing this past May, the story is set in a fantastical world amidst the last human stronghold against dragons, in which every teenager must survive brutal trials meant to separate dragon hunters from the dragon cursed. When a young woman enters the trials hiding a deadly secret, her fate rests in the hands of the dangerous enforcer assigned to watch her.

As the launch title for Entangled’s new YA label Mayhem, the book was an instant bestseller, hitting #1 on the New York Times bestseller list in its opening week. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will produce the feature take for Premeditated, under the company’s Amazon MGM deal, with Premeditated DoD Cayla Tyne overseeing development of the project. There’s not yet a writer attached to the project.

A New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling fantasy author whose works have been translated in over 10 languages, Kova is responsible for book series including Air Awakens, Vortex Chronicles, A Trial of Sorcerers, Married to Magic, Arcana Academy, Golden Guard, Loom Saga, and Wish Quartet. The author is repped by Jenny Bent at The Bent Agency.

Premeditated’s current feature slate also includes an adaptation of the #1 New York Times bestselling romantasy Shield of Sparrows, rom-com 69 Million Things I Hate About You, and the thriller Survive, all set up at Amazon MGM Studios. On the television side, they’re producing several adaptations of top-selling book franchises, including Fourth Wing and Lux at Amazon MGM and Assistant to the Villain at Legendary.

Premeditated and Entangled/Mayhem are represented by IAG and Caitlin DiMotta at TroyGould PC.
