Shrishty is a decade-old journalist covering a variety of beats between politics to pop culture, but movies are her first love, which led her to study Film and TV Development at UCLAx. She lives and breathes cinema and sometimes wakes up with the close-up shot of Ryan Gosling's hands playing piano in La La Land, in her head.

She has worked with numerous media outlets, including Burda Media (MSN News), DKODING Media, The Voice of Fashion, Hindustan Times, and more. Throughout her career, she has interviewed an array of people, from CEOs and politicians to filmmakers and farmers.

This is a good year to be a Star Wars fan. The long-running franchise has seen its ups and downs, but always comes back with a show or movie that reminds people of their love for the galaxy far, far away. Recently, fans had a great time on Disney+ with numerous series like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and Andor. This summer, the franchise will return to theaters as The Mandalorian and Grogu arrive on the big screen. There’s a lot to look forward to, including Shawn Levy’s Starfighter movie. While rumors are plenty about the secretive project, scribe Jonathan Tropper recently cleared the air about the movie’s connection to the larger universe and probable return of the legacy characters.

Though we have seen a glimpse or two shared by Levy during the production wrap, the finer details about Starfighter are scarce. Along with Ryan Gosling, the movie boasts an illustrious cast including Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre. While speaking to ScreenRant, Tropper was talking about missing Tom Cruise’s set visit during which he helped direct a lightsaber fight. Expanding on the idea of lightsabers’ inclusion in the script and the new direction the universe is taking, he revealed that Levy's goal was to "tell a completely new story." Adding:

"Obviously, lightsabers are a part of that universe and that part of that galaxy. I'm so careful not to reveal anything, but essentially, I think it's known that we have no legacy characters. You're not going to see any of the characters you've seen in the other movies. So there are certain things that are still hallmarks of Star Wars that it's good to have in there. But more than that, I can't say."

Shawn Levy Is Taking a Balanced Approach Towards ‘Star Wars’

Levy delivered MCU’s billion-dollar hit Deadpool and Wolverine. The fan-favorite director knows well how to tip his hat to long-time fans and not alienate the new ones at the same time. Deadpool and Wolverine had a story that only focused on Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) journey and his obsession with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) — meanwhile, the movie used familiar MCU touchpoints like “Marvel magic circles,” the void, and Loki’s tech to connect it to the larger universe. It seems he’s taking a similar approach with Starfighter, so it makes sense that while the movie will give a nod to the preexisting parts of the franchise, the story will truly be standalone, so fans need not do any homework.

Star Wars: Starfighter will land in the cinema in May 2027. Meanwhile, Deadpool and Wolverine is streaming on Disney+.
