Prime Video's word of mouth sensation, the World War II film The Tank, has been dominating the streamer's global viewership charts for over two weeks now, although it has slipped out of the Top 10 list in the United States. The Tank has emerged as the most-watched German-language film in Prime Video history, and has been outperforming past hits such as A Working Man and The Accountant 2. However, in recent days, the film has been facing tough competition in the form of the action movie From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. Starring Ana de Armas, the film served as a spin-off to the blockbuster John Wick franchise, and underperformed in its box office run last year. However, it has proven to be a major hit on PVOD and streaming platforms.

According to FlixPatrol, Ballerina has consistently ranked second on the global Prime Video charts this week, while The Tank maintained its grip on the top spot. The war movie was eventually replaced by the newly released action film The Wrecking Crew, starring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. Directed by Len Wiseman, Ballerina grossed around $130 million at the worldwide box office, against a production budget that reportedly ballooned to $90 million because of reshoots. Lionsgate was said to be unhappy with Wiseman's cut of the film, and was forced to bring in director Chad Stahelski to beef up the action scenes and increase John Wick star Keanu Reeves' screen time. Despite the setbacks, the movie opened to positive reviews. It now holds a "Certified Fresh" 75% critics' score and a "Verified Hot" 92% audience score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "Equipping a steely Ana de Armas with creatively brutal action choreography and a pleasingly kooky origin story, Ballerina pirouettes gracefully onto the Wickverse's center stage."

'The Tank' Explores How Human Beings Can Be Pushed To Evil

The Tank was directed by Dennis Gansel, who broke out in 2008 with the psychological drama film The Wave. Like that film, which examined how authoritarianism can pollute minds, The Tank explores how human beings can be corrupted. Set in 1943, the film follows a tank crew assigned to retrieve their commandant from behind enemy lines. The movie doesn't yet have an official critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, although audiences have given it a 62% score. In the last few weeks, The Tank has also diverted attention from the World War II drama Nuremberg, starring Russell Crowe and Rami Malek.

You can watch The Tank on Prime Video, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
