EXCLUSIVE: 308 Entertainment’s supernatural thriller Unmerciful Good Fortune has set Oscar nominee Antonio Banderas opposite Rosario Dawson, Scott Eastwood and Susan Sarandon in the Tirsa Hackshaw written and directed pic.

Unmerciful Good Fortune is based on Edwin Sánchez’s stage play and centers on Maritza Cruz (Dawson), a high-end celebrity attorney pulled into a headline-making case involving a young woman accused of multiple murders—only for the defendant to claim she possesses psychic abilities and kills to prevent worse fates, plunging Maritza into a moral and spiritual labyrinth. The project is currently in pre-production.

Banderas takes on the role of Pito Cruz. Eastwood plays Paul Leslie, and Sarandon is Dr. Irene Charles.

Producers are Tom DeSanto, Corey Large, Rosario Dawson, Brian Kirchoff, and Jordan Wilson. Playhouse Group is financing Unmerciful Good Fortune with Lorcan Kavanagh leading and Gordon Bijelonic executive producing.

Banderas most recently starred in Babygirl, Paddington in Peru and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The actor who came to fame in Pedro Almodovar’s canon received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for 2020’s Pain and Glory. He is repped by Emanuel Nunez of NuCo Media Group and Greenberg Glusker LLP.

Hackshaw said, “We’ve been joking in prep that it’s a murderer’s row; the talent joining this film is staggering. It’s the perfect lineup to tell this darkly lyrical story that sits at the edge of the psychological and the supernatural. Beyond the sheer talent, meeting Antonio and seeing what he’s built in Spain unlocked the potential of this movie in ways I hadn’t imagined. We’re thrilled to channel that energy with Antonio and show what’s possible when you tap into a place alive with extraordinary creativity.”

DeSanto added: “Antonio is a living legend and part of Hollywood royalty. The talent we have brought together for Unmerciful Good Fortune just shows how good the story is. Like Weapons and Black Phone, it’s a supernatural thriller that is going to bring people back to theaters and have them talking about it for days after.”

Hackshaw is represented by Hillary Bibicoff of Feig Finkel, The Gotham Group, and WPA
