Apple TV has no shortage of notable sci-fi shows, but the next major release within the genre deserves extra attention for being connected to a massive media franchise. 2025 concluded with the release of Apple TV's Pluribus, another prestige title from Vince Gilligan that scored big with viewers and critics alike.
Pluribus, a post-apocalyptic drama with dark humor, also serves as a sci-fi series, joining the already impressive list of sci-fi programming available on Apple TV. Of course, you can't discuss Apple TV and sci-fi without bringing up Severance, a mind-bending psychological thriller that first debuted in 2022.
Aside from Pluribus and Severance, Apple TV's worthwhile sci-fi shows include Silo, Foundation, For All Mankind, Murderbot, and Dark Matter. All of which have new seasons on the way. Granted, there's another sci-fi show releasing a new season worth mentioning, and it's the one that brought Godzilla to Apple TV.
Apple TV's Next Big Sci-Fi Release Is A Show In The Monsterverse Franchise
Based on the streamer's release calendar, the next sci-fi show coming to Apple TV in 2026 is the return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The show, which was first released in November 2023, is part of the Monsterverse, the multimedia franchise best known for projects featuring Godzilla, King Kong, and other Titans.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the Monsterverse's second TV show, but the first for Apple TV. The live-action series features two different timelines: the early days of Monarch in the '50s and those connected to the organization following the events of 2014's Godzilla. Father and son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell both portray the key character Lee Shaw across the two timelines.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters Season 2 Is Coming On February 27, 2026
After the success of the Monsterverse series on Apple TV, it was rightfully renewed. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 officially returns on February 27, 2026, and will air new episodes weekly before coming to a close on May 1. When season 2 begins, two years will have passed since Monarch season 1's ending.
As for what to expect in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, Apple TV has already been teasing a new Titan after introducing several new monsters in the first season. While the show has heavily incorporated Godzilla, and without giving too much away, the end of season 1 also set up a role for Kong.
Kurt and Wyatt Russell will both reprise their roles in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, with other returning cast members including Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Joe Tippettt, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, and Joe Tippett. Prey's Amber Midthunder has also joined season 2's cast in a recurring role.
The Future Of The Monsterverse Looks Bright For Apple TV
©Apple TV/Courtesy Everett CollectionWith Monarch: Legacy of Monsters set to return in a few weeks, interest in the Monsterverse will get another boost. It's unclear how long the sci-fi show will run on Apple TV, but sights are already set on the future for the shared universe.
As other segments of the franchise continue to grow, like the case with the upcoming sequel movie Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, Apple, in particular, will expand its presence within the franchise. Apple TV is already developing a prequel spinoff to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which will focus on Wyatt Russell's version of Lee Shaw going up against the Soviet Union after they try to weaponize Titans in the '80s.
Apple TV also has an interest in developing more shows set in the Monsterverse franchise, proving that the streamer continues to have high hopes for the multimedia shared universe being a highlight of their programming for years to come.
