A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."

An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.

Brandon Sanderson's expansive fantasy universe is coming to the screen for the first time. AppleTV has landed the rights to the author's interconnected Cosmere universe of books, and intends to bring them to life on both the big and small screens. After a competitive bidding process, Sanderson will retain an unprecedented level of control over the adaptations of his works.

According to reports, Sanderson will write, produce, and consult on Apple's adaptations of his works, and retain final approval over them, a degree of power that even fantasy titans like George R.R. Martin and J.K. Rowling don't enjoy. Clearly, however, the deep-pocketed Apple believes the price is worth paying. Sanderson is a chart-topping author, and none of his works have yet graced the screen. The streamer already has two titles eyed for development. Mistborn, a series of novels about a band of heroes battling a tyrannic empire on a world of ash, has been tapped for a feature, while The Stormlight Archive, a saga about a world ravaged by magical tempests, is being looked at as a potential TV series. Both series take place in the Cosmere, a fictional universe of fantasy planets, each with their own rules of magic; several characters from different parts of the Cosmere have crossed over into other series.

A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sanderson was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and attended Brigham Young University, where he was roommates with future Jeopardy! champion and host Ken Jennings. His first novel, Elantris, was published in 2005; he has since published 71 novels and sold over 50 million books worldwide. Sanderson has successfully crowdfunded many of his books, raising over $100 million USD, and headlines his own annual fantasy convention. He was also entrusted with concluding the epic The Wheel of Time series after the death of author Robert Jordan; Sanderson finished the saga with three best-selling books.

Sanderson's Cosmere is the latest feather in the cap of Apple, which has taken on a number of notable science fiction and fantasy literary adaptations. They include Foundation, based on the works of Isaac Asimov (a hero of Sanderson's); Silo, by Hugh Howey; Murderbot, by Martha Wells; and the upcoming Neuromancer, the once-thought-unfilmable cyberpunk classic by William Gibson.

Apple has acquired the rights to Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere universe; several projects based on it are in development. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
