Ariana Grande got a digital enhancement on the latest cover of Vogue Japan.

The “Wicked” star and pop singer is the cover subject of the magazine’s latest issue. But people quickly spotted a problem with the original Vogue Japan cover photo: Ariana is sporting an uncanny six fingers on her left hand.

In response to a fan who posted the Vogue Japan cover image Thursday on Instagram, Grande replied, “holy shit.” She added cheekily in another reply: “oh my goodness how exciting ! i’ve been saying i need some extra appendages so that i can start an album ! thankful for this.”

In the story on Vogue Japan’s website, the photo in question on Friday appeared to have been corrected with a version of the image of her with five fingers on her left hand.

Variety has reached out to Condé Nast and Vogue Japan for comment.

The image of the six-fingered Grande, on the March 2026 cover of Vogue Japan, went viral over the last few days as fans expressed astonishment at the gaffe.

“The level of AI slopification is so high that Ariana Grande has 6 fingers on the cover of Vogue Japan and NOBODY noticed it before publishing it,” Luiza Jarovsky, co-founder of the AI Tech & Privacy Academy, wrote in a post on X Friday.
