Carlos Ponce has joined the cast of the upcoming indie dramedy “Hurricane Seasons,” which is currently in post-production after wrapping filming in New York and Puerto Rico.
Ponce joins the mostly Latino cast of Tony-nominated actress Justina Machado (“One Day at a Time,” “Matlock,” “Pulse”); comedian Aida Rodriguez; Alycia Pascual Peña (“Bel-Air,” “Saved By the Bell”); Elvis Nolasco (“Godfather of Harlem”); and Jerry Minor (“Abbott Elementary”).
Directed by Nicole Gomez Fisher (“Sleeping with the Fishes,” “Good Egg”) with a script from Xavier Ortiz, the film takes place in the aftermath of a hurricane, as a Brooklyn artist (Rodriguez) and her daughter (Pascual-Peña) embark on a last-wish road trip across Puerto Rico with their terminally ill matriarch – only to uncover deep family secrets and the adventurous side of the “abuela” everyone thought they knew.
Ponce plays Ivan, the love interest and old flame of Rodriguez’s character.
Producers on the project include Gomez Fisher, Ortiz, Rodriguez, Anthony James Faure and Nadia Barbarossa.
Originally from Santurce, Puerto Rico, Ponce is best known for his roles in film and television, including, “Couples Retreat,” Murder Mystery 2,” “Julie & the Phantoms,” “7th Heaven” and “Beverly Hills, 90210,” as well as for lending his voice for hit films like “Rio” and “Ice Age: Collision Course.” He was most recently seen on “Velvet: El Nuevo Imperio,” a Telemundo drama series, where he played Esteban Márquez.
He has also released six albums, earning worldwide accolades such as best pop album in 1999 at the Billboard Latin Music Awards and landing three chart-topping hits on the Latin Billboard charts.
