Rick and Morty is back in manga form, and we've got an exclusive first look at Rick & Morty The Manga Volume 2: After School Science Club. The infamous animated franchise has a strong comic book presence, thanks to publisher Oni Press, and now it is building on its successful first foray into the manga genre with this latest release.
Screen Rant is thrilled to share art from After School Science Club, the upcoming Rick & Morty manga written by Josh Tierney, with art by JeyOdin.
The book's creators promise their own twist on the franchise's signature "dark, absurdist humor," as the protagonists embrace Japanese culture...perhaps a little too overzealously.
Rick & Morty's Popular Manga Gets An Even Wilder Sequel, As An "Obsession With Maid Cafés" Goes Off The Rails
Rick And Morty The Manga Vol. 2: After School Science Club; Written By Josh Tierney; Art By JeyOdin; Available February 24, 2026 From Oni Press
Here is the full synopsis for After School Science Club, per Oni Press:
When Morty falls in love at first sight with the new exchange student from Japan—Chigusa—and she shows him her favorite manga about after-school clubs, he knows just the advisor for his hastily constructed new Science Club: Rick Sanchez. With his ragtag group of teen losers (plus Chigusa) and a cursory knowledge of Japanese school clubs he picked up from skimming Morty’s manga, Rick leads the club in a competition against the preexisting, sanctioned, totally normal Science Club, creating a portal to Akihabara, nexus of anime and manga culture, and famous home of Tokyo’s maid cafés. Brimming with inspiration from their trip (and chased out of the country by the maids who have turned on Rick) the Science Club prepares for their school festival with a maid café of their own making—a science maid café selling questionable concoctions.
The second volume of Rick & Morty The Manga clearly offers the series' trademark blend of genres. That is, After School Science Club starts with the premise of a high school romantic comedy, or classic sitcom episode, but it can be expected to spiral hilariously out of control from here.
Morty's latest crush is only just the beginning of the story. Once Rick gets involved, it will lead to the strange creation of "a science maid café selling questionable concoctions." Where Rick & Morty The Manga Vol. 2 goes from there is hard to predict, which is precisely what makes it a must-read for fans of the show.

Rick & Morty Take Japan In The Over-The-Top New Series
Rick & Morty The Manga is all about infusing the franchise with a love for the art form. Just like how the animated show, and its comic spin-offs, lovingly embrace, and subvert, familiar sci-fi storytelling tropes of all kinds. As writer Josh Tierney explained:
Dark, absurdist humor is a core part of my being, and I've been collecting manga since I was 8, so when I was asked to write this book, I couldn't believe how perfect an opportunity it was...Plus, it was a great excuse to watch Rick and Morty episodes over and over again while working on it (I can still hear their voices echoing in the recesses of my brain). If you're a Rick and Morty fan who is deep into manga, I wrote this for you. And for me. Let's get lost in Akiba together.
Beyond that, After School Science Club offers classic Rick & Morty madcap action, no further hype necessary.
Artist JeyOdin, who previously worked on Volume 1 of Rick & Morty the Manga, added:
Volume 2! Although not a direct sequel to the previous storyline I drew, it was a very fun project to work on...I've been drawing manga professionally since I was 19, and being the artist who gets to draw the Rick and Morty Manga has been a great honor. This volume truly has it all, humor, action, and even mystery in some points. Get ready to visit Akihabara, the mecca of anime and manga and how an obsession with Maid Cafes can create more chaos than you could ever imagine.
Overall, the new book sounds like it is going to live up to the precedent set by the first. Rick & Morty has confirmed that it can adapt to and thrive in any genre, any art style, and any medium.
