It's become a running joke online that Chris Pratt is trying to play every character imaginable, but there's at least one role he's unlikely to land anytime soon: DC's Batman. The Marvel star previously worked with James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, and with speculation swirling that actors from Gunn's past projects could cross over into the DCU, Pratt's name has naturally come up. However, according to the actor himself, nothing is currently in the works, suggesting that a jump from the MCU to Gotham isn't happening anytime soon.
In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Pratt was asked about his future in the DCU, as Gunn is co-running the studio with Peter Safran. According to Pratt, there were discussions, and he expressed interest in working with Gunn again in a future project. But he also claims that he has no idea which DC character he would play if he were to join the rival superhero cinematic universe.
"You know, we'd like to talk about that [and] other things as well, but yeah... I've always try to lead with mystery because I think it would be amazing to be able to do it. But if I'm being honest, no, I don't think so. I think there's some that I think I could play, and he probably feels the same way. But it's, you know, there's nothing. I'd like to be mysterious and lead people on a little bit. But in all honesty, I don't know what that character would be. I would like to work with him again, though."
Pratt was then asked whether he was considering playing Batman, as The Brave and the Bold is still in development and has yet to cast its lead. The actor then revealed that he had suggested it to Gunn via a Photoshop edit of himself wearing the Batman mask. However, based on Gunn's reply to his edit, the odds of him becoming DC's newest Caped Crusader are unlikely.
"I sent a picture of myself with a Batman mask on. It's a little aggressive to James [Gunn]. I did it in Photoshop, and he just said 'ha ha.' It's safe to say, I'm not going to be Batman."
What's Going on With Batman in the DCU?
The Brave and the Bold was announced by Gunn when he made the DC Studios announcement back in 2023. Initially, it was to be part of Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, focusing on Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian Wayne. At the moment, no one has been cast for this feature. For a while, the only name attached to the project was Andy Muschietti, the director of 2023's The Flash. But, recently, it was announced that Christina Hodson has been added as screenwriter. Hodson previously worked with Muschietti on The Flash. She was also involved in Bird of Prey and the canceled Batgirl movie.
A handful of people have expressed interest in playing Batman in the DCU. One of them is Tyler Hoechlin, who played Clark Kent, Superman & Lois. Others include Reacher's Alan Ritchson and Supernatural's Jensen Ackles. Meanwhile, Gunn has been debunking Batman casting rumors on social media, reminding fans that only a handful of people know what's going on behind the scenes.
The Brave and the Bold is currently in development and has not announced a release date. In the meantime, you can stream Guardians of the Galaxy on Disney+. Follow Collider to keep up to date with the latest updates.
