Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider. He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.
Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.
Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.
Some of the most famous faces in film entertainment belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its vast array of heroes. Typically, the Marvel films and their characters establish themselves as streaming giants after their theatrical runs on platforms such as Disney+ and Hulu. Chris Pratt first rose to establish himself as a leading man when he played Star-Lord in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie and its subsequent sequels. Just like in the adventures of Groot (Vin Diesel), Star-Lord (Pratt), and the rest of the Guardians gang, the 2014 original has found a new streaming home other than Disney+ and Hulu. Guardians of the Galaxy has found a new streaming home on AMC+ in the US, which is surprising. The Marvel film has also maintained a position within the Top 10 with forays into the Top 5 as well.
Prior to their first feature film in 2014, even the most hardcore Marvel fans weren't familiar with the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, a film trilogy, two Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame, and a cameo in Thor: Love and Thunder later, and they've become some of the most popular characters in the ever-expanding empire that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, received an amazingly warm welcome while being widely accepted as some of the funniest and the most emotional Marvel films ever made by the Marvel fandom. Ultimately, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would go on to serve as a send-off for the core group of Guardians as writer/director James Gunn worked to wrap up the arcs of the characters he helped bring to life. However, all of that success hinged on the performance of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), which is reflected in its IMDb score of 8 and Rotten Tomatoes rating of 92%.
What Does the Future Hold for the Guardians of the Galaxy?
Led by Pratt's Marvel character, Peter Quill, the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy includes Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Nebula (Karen Gillan). Newer additions included Kraglin (Sean Gunn) and the adorable good dog Cosmo (voiced by Maria Bakalova). While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 allowed fans to say goodbye to beloved faces, not all are erased from the MCU. Pratt's Peter Quill, for instance, is poised for a future return. Star-Lord, nor any of his Guardians co-stars, are not among the names announced for the Avengers: Doomsday cast, Marvel's upcoming blockbuster. The recent Avengers: Doomsday casting announcement has members of The Fantastic Four, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Downey Jr. all set to star in the film. There will also be some space for iconic Fox X-Men actors such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden.
While speaking with Collider last year, Pratt confirmed that his character would return in a future Marvel movie, but he declined to be in Doomsday or another project entirely. One thing is sure: Pratt and Marvel would make good on the promise of Star-Lord’s return.
“I can't say, for fans of mine, where they'll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”
Guardians of the Galaxy is available to stream on AMC+ in the US. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Avengers: Doomsday.
