Lade Omotade is a News and Feature Author at Collider with a passion for exploring the ever-evolving world of the Film & TV industry. Her work centers on covering the latest news, from casting announcements and franchise scoops to streaming updates and behind-the-scenes shifts that shape the way stories are told.
Omotade approaches storytelling with both professional insight and unapologetic fandom; digging into what makes a franchise successful, spotlighting rising voices in Hollywood, and asking the questions fans are already buzzing about. Her writing reflects that mix: part industry analysis, part fan excitement, and always grounded in a love for the craft of storytelling.
Set between the events of 1991's The Silence of the Lambs and the 2001 sequel, Hannibal, a TV follow-up came about in 2021, created by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. That follow-up is Clarice, starring Rebecca Breeds as the titular character, which didn't leave much of an impression on viewers or critics. The series offers a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs.
On CBS, Clarice Season 1 ran from February 11 to June 24, 2021, ending after 13 episodes. Half a decade later, the crime drama is trending on streaming charts worldwide, ranking among the top 10 most popular titles on Amazon Prime Video. It currently sits at #8 and has been on the charts in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, and the UK for the past week. Similar to The Silence of the Lambs, Clarice is an adaptation of Thomas Harris' best-selling 1988 novel, and in addition to Breeds, it stars Band of Brothers' Michael Cudlitz, Lucca De Oliveira, Devyn A. Tyler, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, and Marnee Carpenter.
If you're yet to watch the psychological horror series, its synopsis teases:
“Clarice's bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup that comes from a challenging childhood empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man's world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.”
Has 'Clarice' Been Cancelled?
Many would agree that the first season of Clarice was in no way mind-blowing. Even on Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 58% audience score and an even lower critics rating at 42%. Moreover, the overall consensus reads: "Effectively grim, but narratively bland, Clarice is a disturbingly safe procedural that lets down both its talented cast and source material." Following such a disappointing debut, that didn't stop Clarice from being considered for a second season. In May 2021, CBS entered negotiations to relocate the series to Paramount+ for Season 2, but by June, the relocation became "unlikely" to happen; still, as of 2025, the police procedural has not been officially cancelled.
