After almost two years, Peter Capaldi's Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hagerty is back on the case as Apple TV has officially confirmed the release date of Criminal Record Season 2. Your favorite TARDIS attack eyebrows are suited and ready to return to the scene of the crime alongside Cush Jumbo’s Detective Sergeant June Lenker on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, followed by new episodes weekly through Wednesday, June 10. Alongside the release date announcement, Apple TV has also delivered five first-look images of the new season, available to view below.

Created by Paul Rutman, the series first debuted in early 2024 to great critical acclaim, earning a strong 90% score from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. In Collider's review of the series, we awarded it a 9/10 score, saying, "This isn’t your mum’s cozy murder mystery. It’s the opposite, aiming to incite more strong emotions than any Poirot story ever could, occasionally leaving you far more confused and heartbroken than when you started." The second season will feature eight episodes in total, mirroring Season 1, with a Season 2 synopsis reading:

"Season two reunites Peter Capaldi as ‘Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty’ and Cush Jumbo as ‘Detective Sergeant June Lenker.’ When a young man is stabbed to death at a political rally, rival police officers June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty are forced into an uneasy alliance. But what starts as a hunt for a murderer escalates into an undercover operation to foil a Far-Right bomb plot in the heart of London."

New Faces Join 'Criminal Record' Season 2

Of course, this acclaimed British crime thriller wouldn't be the same without Capaldi and Jumbo's excellent lead performances. However, the show also thrives thanks to stellar ensemble turns, with Season 2's returning cast including Shaun Dooley (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Stephen Campbell Moore (War of the Worlds), and Charlie Creed-Miles (Peaky Blinders). Season 2 also brings with it several new faces to the series, including Dustin Demri-Burns (Am I Being Unreasonable?), Luca Pasqualino (Skins), Luther Ford (The Crown), Lyndsey Marshal (The League of Gentlemen), and Peter Sullivan (The Iris Affair). A synopsis for the series reads:

"In the heart of London, an anonymous phone call draws two brilliant detectives -- a young woman in the early stages of her career and a well-connected man determined to protect his legacy -- into a fight to correct an old miscarriage of justice."

Criminal Record Season 2 premieres on Apple TV on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
