After 67 years, Supergirl may be on the verge of a costume change as iconic as Superman’s Black Recovery Suit, worn after his legendary battle with Doomsday. Unlike anything Kara has ever donned, this new suit promises to be unforgettable.

DC has officially released its April solicitations, giving fans a glimpse of what’s in store for Supergirl in Sophie Campbell’s ongoing run.

The preview for Supergirl #12 teases a brand-new suit, which, based on the synopsis, is designed to compensate for Kara being “broken and without her powers.” With this in mind, DC has effectively given Supergirl her own version of Superman’s recovery suit.

Superman’s iconic Black Recovery Suit was the costume he wore after his fatal battle with Doomsday, while he was still recovering from the toll the fight took on his body and powers. While Kara won’t be facing the Kryptonian monstrosity, DC appears to be setting her up for a major event that will leave her similarly broken, much like the Man of Steel once was.

The official synopsis for Supergirl #12 teases: “The conflict in Kandor between the Science Council and the younger Kandorians is only growing more tense. Supergirl's first run-in with the rebel leader Black Flame ends with her broken and without her powers, forcing her to seek recovery with the Science Council.”

From this, it’s clear that Kara will face a foe capable of leaving her extremely vulnerable, necessitating help from the Science Council. Based on Campbell’s main cover for the issue, it appears this assistance will come in the form of a mech suit designed to compensate for Kara’s lost powers.

Kara’s Boldest Costume Yet Marks a New Era in Supergirl’s Legacy

The suit is a notable departure from Kara’s usual sleek, chic look, trading elegance for a considerably bulkier, more metallic design. With glowing yellow lights, it’s obvious the suit comes equipped with major power boosts. The addition of an eyepiece further distinguishes this outfit within Supergirl’s costume history.

This may be one of the most radical changes in mainstream continuity for Kara, marking a defining era for the hero, one in which she finds herself broken and powerless. While the suit may not be forever, it represents a permanent shift in Supergirl’s legacy, echoing Superman’s own iconic recovery period.

Supergirl #12 from DC Comics is available on April 8, 2026!
