Dolls are often seen as a staple of childhood, a type of toy that plenty of kids have and one that is often our very first friend. But, as we age, dolls can often shift towards a creepier vibe, thanks to their unwavering eye contact and lifelike appearance. There’s also the fact that Hollywood has made a killing in haunted doll movies, giving us further reason to fear the one-time companion. Soon, a new movie will bring out the terror of the doll subgenre when Rod Blackhurst’s Dolly tells Chucky, Annabelle, and even M3GAN to take a hike because there’s a new kind of demonic energy in town.

Today, we at Collider are thrilled to unveil the trailer for the Shudder and Independent Film Company-backed project, which is set to haunt cinemas on March 6. Featuring a killer cast that includes Fabianne Therese (John Dies at the End), Seann William Scott (Final Destination), Ethan Suplee (American History X), and pro-wrestler Max the Impaler, the movie is sure to reignite your fear of dolls with an incredibly disturbing twist.

If you think haunted doll movies are overrated, we urge you to stay with us, because this isn’t your typical possessed porcelain flick. The trailer follows Therese’s Macy and Scott’s Chase as they go for a stroll in the forest. While taking in the views and enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with exploring nature, the pair inadvertently stumble upon something incredibly dark and dangerous. First, they spot a gathering of dolls hanging on trees, which would be an immediate “absolutely not” from us, before being attacked by a crazy person wearing — you guessed it — a doll mask. From what the trailer teases, it looks like Chase is down for the count, but Macy is hauled away to the psychopath’s on-theme dollhouse where she’s held captive and forced to play make-believe as her kidnapper’s new doll.

Who’s Behind ‘Dolly’?

In addition to helming the shocktastic film, Blackhurst also produced and co-penned the project alongside Brandon Weavil. In the past, Blackhurst has helmed the documentaries Amanda Knox and The Tennessee 11, as well as episodes of Peacock’s docuseries, John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise. He also co-penned the script for Bryce McGuire’s Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon-led horror project, Night Swim, which was based on a short created by both Blackhurst and McGuire.

Check out our exclusive first look at the trailer for Dolly above and see it in theaters on March 6.
