Although the Star Wars franchise is returning to the big screen, several upcoming TV shows are in development. Star Wars TV shows have, on the whole, been a mixed bag. The likes of The Mandalorian started well, with its popularity paving the way for Star Wars’ best TV show, Andor.
However, disappointments like The Mandalorian season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett led to excitement dwindling and Lucasfilm changing direction. This led to the upcoming slate of Star Wars movies and the reduction in TV shows set in a galaxy far, far away.
That said, the TV projects that have remained in development by Lucasfilm are still exciting. Admittedly, having more of a balance between TV and film may benefit the Star Wars franchise going forward. With that in mind, here are the Star Wars TV shows, individual seasons, and Disney+ spin-offs set to release in the coming years.
Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord
Release Date: April 6, 2026
The most immediate Star Wars TV release is the story of Maul - Shadow Lord. Lucasfilm released the first official trailer for Maul - Shadow Lord in January 2026, revealing that the show will be released on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. Maul - Shadow Lord was first announced at Star Wars Celebration 2024, as the latest spin-off of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
After Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and the animated Tales shows, Maul - Shadow Lord marks the fourth major Clone Wars spin-off. The show will focus on the titular character after the events of Order 66, as he navigates the galaxy during the Empire's early days and takes on a new apprentice.
The series will also detail how Maul became the crime boss of Crimson Dawn, as was revealed in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Finally, after years of being one of Star Wars' best supporting TV characters, Maul will receive his own story. Maul's resurrection after The Phantom Menace was shown in The Clone Wars, with Rebels concluding his journey.
Now, Maul - Shadow Lord will fill in the gap between the two shows. With an updated version of The Clone Wars' iconic animation style, Maul - Shadow Lord is continuing the TV side of the Star Wars franchise, alongside an exciting story, a close April release date, and an iconic franchise villain as its protagonist.
Ahsoka Season 2
Release Date: 2026
With Maul - Shadow Lord carrying the torch for Star Wars animation, Ahsoka season 2's story is doing the same for Star Wars' live-action TV shows. Ahsoka season 2 is the only confirmed live-action Star Wars TV show currently in active development, with a release date expected in the latter half of 2026.
Ahsoka season 2 began shooting in April 2025, with production officially wrapping in October of that year. The story will follow directly on from the ending of Ahsoka season 1, with the titular Jedi and her apprentice, Sabine Wren, stranded in the distant galaxy of Peridea. Ahsoka and Sabine will begin tracking down Baylan Skoll, the fallen Jedi dedicated to unleashing an ancient power.
Meanwhile, Ezra Bridger and Hera Syndulla will rally their allies to face off against Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is looking to reinstate the Empire as the galaxy's main power. Given that Ahsoka season 2 has been in post-production for several months, a trailer and an official release date are expected in the first half of 2026.
Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi
Release Date: 2026
Star Wars: Visions has been a consistent Disney+ show in the franchise since 2019, with season 3 being released in 2025. In 2026, a spin-off, titled Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, will be released. The show will be a full anime series based on the world introduced in Visions season 1, episode 5, also titled The Ninth Jedi.
This episode introduced Kara, the Force-sensitive daughter of a lightsaber smith who began crafting weapons for the eight remaining Jedi in the galaxy. However, five of these Jedi are revealed as Sith, who control the galaxy. Kara, alongside Juro, Ethan, and Homen, creates a new Jedi Order and vows to save Kara's father after he was captured by the Sith.
Star Wars: Visions season 3, episode 3, titled The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope, continued this story. In 2026, Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi is expected to conclude Kara's journey. This will be a first for the franchise, in that it is telling a non-canon anime story centered around the same characters, rather than the individual anthologies Visions is known for.
The Mandalorian Season 4
Release Date: TBD
Credit: Disney+ via MovieStillsDBFinally, The Mandalorian season 4 is expected at some point in the future. One of the upcoming Star Wars movies set for release in 2026 is the story of The Mandalorian and Grogu, which many initially assumed was the story of season 4 in movie format. However, an interview Empire held with creator Jon Favreau in 2025 confirmed otherwise.
Favreau revealed that he had completed the scripts for The Mandalorian season 4, and that the show is ready to go once The Mandalorian and Grogu is out of the way. Although a release date has not yet been given, this seems to confirm that The Mandalorian season 4 will be released at some point. When that will be remains to be seen, but it marks another project filed under Star Wars' upcoming TV shows.
