There can be only one, if you’re referring to the day the first Highlander images appeared online. That’s right, Highlander fans, leading star Henry Cavill took to his personal Instagram this morning to share the first two official images from his long-gestating Highlander reboot, which is now in production. Cavill posted the two new photos with a caption reading: “Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy. #Highlander”
Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot has been gestating since 2021, when the project was first announced to be in the works with Chad Stahelski (John Wick) directing and Henry Cavill starring. The film has been hit with countless setbacks over the last few years, but it wasn’t until casting began early in 2025 that things truly got off the ground. Collider was first to report Russell Crowe’s involvement in the film, and he has since confirmed he will play Ramirez, the same character previously played by the late Sean Connery in the 1986 film. Crowe has also revealed that he will bring a Spanish accent to the character.
Dave Bautista has also joined the cast of Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot, and he spoke about his involvement in the film to Collider last year, citing just how hard he’d been working on his sword training. MCU veteran Karen Gillan will also star in Highlander as Heather, along with Jeremy Irons, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, Kevin McKidd, WWE star Drew McIntyre, and more. The film does not yet have an official release date.
When Does Henry Cavill’s Next Movie Come Out?
Henry Cavill’s next movie will be released much sooner than expected. Just yesterday, Black Bear announced that it will bring In The Grey to theaters on April 10. The film comes from director Guy Ritchie, and it co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González. The film wrapped production all the way back in 2023, and it was delayed several times before being removed from the release calendar entirely last year. Things are back on track for the action thriller, though, which follows a group of elite operatives who go on a heist mission that would be a death sentence for anyone else.
Check out the first official images from Highlander above and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the film.
