Hulu’s upcoming dystopian sequel to the smash-hit and streaming sensation The Handmaid’s Tale has finally revealed its release date, and The Testaments is arriving sooner than people initially predicted.
The Handmaid's Tale is based on the book of the same name written by Margaret Atwood, and the series took the world by storm with its dystopian worldview and on-the-nose terrifying storylines, which led many to tune in to see how the series' main character, June (played by Elisabeth Moss), would survive. The Testaments is a sequel to the series and takes place 15 years after The Handmaid's Tale.
[The Testaments] is a dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead. The series follows young teens Agnes (played by Chase Infiniti), dutiful and pious, and Daisy (played by Lucy Halliday), a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s (played by Ann Dowd) elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.
Hulu has announced that The Testaments will premiere on April 8, with its first three episodes, followed by new episodes dropping weekly.
