Dragon Ball Super first debuted in July 2015, nearly two decades after the final episode of Dragon Ball Z. The series ran for over 100 episodes, covering the Tournament of Power arc, ending in March 2018, with its story continuing in the manga.
Several years later, the manga entered an indefinite hiatus following the tragic passing of its creator, Akira Toriyama, in 2024. While one standalone chapter was released in February 2025, Dragon Ball Super has remained in limbo for both its anime and manga. Recently, however, a long-awaited announcement was made regarding the future of Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball Super Has Officially Announced Its Next Series
The future of Dragon Ball Super has finally come into focus as of January 25, 2026, with the official announcement of a new anime. During the Genkidamatsuri event, a celebration of the franchise’s 40th anniversary, a new project, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, was introduced alongside a key visual.
The visual features both Goku and Vegeta standing in front of the Galactic Patrol symbol, with the emblem also appearing on their outfits. The anime is confirmed to be in production and will cover the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, taking place after the Tournament of Power.
The arc will follow Goku and Vegeta as they confront their most challenging enemy yet: Moro, also known as the “Planet-eater.” As a being with the potential to drain the life force from planets, his existence alone is a major threat to the Dragon Ball universe.
When Is Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Premiering?
Following the announcement of Dragon Ball’s next installment, fans from around the world are eager for more information, including when the series is set to release. Unfortunately, there is no official release window for Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol as of yet, however, it's likely the series will be released in late 2027.
Alongside the announcement of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, Dragon Ball shared a new project titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. This will be a remake of the Battle of Gods arc with updated animation and voice acting, with early previews that look absolutely stunning. The remake is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2026.
With Dragon Ball Super: Beerus’s official release date, the most reasonable expectation for The Galactic Patrol’s release will likely be Fall 2027. Additionally, the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc consists of 26 chapters, suggesting roughly 13 episodes, assuming each episode covers 2-3 manga chapters.
