Catherine O'Hara always made Macaulay Culkin feel right at home.

So much so that, while costarring as a mother-son duo in Home Alone and Home Alone 2 in the early '90s, the two formed a bond that spanned decades, leading up to O'Hara's death at age 71 on Jan. 30.

"Mama. I thought we had time," Culkin, 45, who portrayed Kevin McCallister opposite O'Hara's Kate McCallister in the beloved films, wrote on Instagram. "I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say."

"I love you. I’ll see you later," he concluded before adding in the comments section, "I’m mad about this…"

Two years before O'Hara's passing, the Emmy winner reunited with Culkin as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation," O'Hara said at the December 2023 ceremony. "The reason families all over the world can't let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin."

"I know you worked really hard, but you made acting look like the most natural thing to do," O'Hara continued. "It really was as if we had ambushed the home of this little boy named Kevin to make this movie, and he just went along with it for the fun of it."

O'Hara went on to praise Culkin, who was only 10 years old when Home Alone was released, for how he handled fame at such a young age.

"How does anyone survive that?" she asked. "Well, I believe you'd have to possess a certain quality, a gift, that dear [writer] John Hughes obviously recognized in you, Macaulay: Your sense of humor."

"You have brought that sense of sweet yet twisted yet totally relatable sense of humor," she added, "to everything that you have chosen to do."

As O'Hara's loved ones continue to mourn her passing, keep reading for a look back at her life in photos.
