Years after wrapping up its four-season run, John Krasinski’s action thriller series Jack Ryan is quietly climbing the streaming charts again. According to FlixPatrol, on January 20, Jack Ryan ranked 7th on the Prime Video charts in the United States. The sudden surge in popularity makes sense, though, given the recent news surrounding the franchise. Jack Ryan is taking a page from the Peaky Blinders playbook and is set to continue with a movie sequel that picks up right where the show left off. Filming for the movie kicked off in February 2025.
Based on the iconic character created by Tom Clancy, the series follows Jack Ryan (Krasinski) as a sharp CIA analyst working the Yemen desk who begins to uncover a global terrorist plot. In addition to exploring Jack's backstory and intellect, the series has also introduced a ton of memorable supporting characters over the years. Wendell Pierce’s Jim Greer quickly became a fan favorite after arriving at T-FAD following a demotion from the Karachi desk. The final season also introduced Michael Peña as Domingo “Ding” Chavez, a battle-hardened operative who partners with Jack. His inclusion laid the perfect groundwork for a Rainbow Six spin-off, which is reportedly in early development.
Much like The Simpsons, the series also gained attention for its habit of predicting real-world events. Season 3 drew comparisons to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, despite being written and filmed before the full-scale invasion began in 2022. More recently, a Season 2 clip went viral in which Jack challenges a room full of government officials by asking what the biggest threat on the world stage really is. Instead of naming the usual global rivals, he points to Venezuela and explains that the region holds one of the largest concentrations of oil and mineral resources on the planet. And now, Venezuela is dominating international headlines for that exact reason.
John Krasinski Hints at Huge Action Set Pieces in New ‘Jack Ryan’ Movie
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but Krasinski has already hinted that the movie will be much bigger than the series. Speaking in an interview with Collider back in May 2025, Krasinski teased that they're "getting to do all the big fun action movie stuff we didn't get to do in a television show." The movie is confirmed to be directed by Andrew Bernstein, who previously directed three episodes in Season 2, including the finale. The screenplay is being written by Aaron Rabin, who handled most of the writing on the fourth season.
Krasinski will be returning to reprise his role, joined by Pierce and Michael Kelly as Greer and Mike November, respectively. Sienna Miller will also be joining the cast as a new British MI-6 agent working with the CIA.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
