Jason Statham’s latest action thriller is now playing in theaters everywhere, and it’s officially set a record for the long-tenured star. At the time of writing, Shelter holds a solid 73% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, making it his highest-rated film in 10 years. It will even earn the fabled Certified Fresh label if it can keep its score in this range. Ward Perry wrote the script for Shelter and Ric Roman Waugh directed the film. It tells the story of a reclusive man living on a remote island who decides to save a young girl. This sets off a chain of events that brings his complicated past back into the light, threatening to destroy all the peace he worked so hard to cultivate.
Only four other Jason Statham movies have earned higher scores than Shelter on Rotten Tomatoes, the first being Spy, which earned 94% from critics on the aggregator site. The other three Certified Fresh movies that Statham has starred in are Furious 7, The Bank Job, and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, which earned scores of 81%, 79%, and 75% respectively. Shelter even outranks the 71% earned by The Beekeeper, which is widely regarded as one of Statham’s best movies.
Jason Statham fans have a lot to look forward to over the next year, also, including another action movie coming to theaters this August. Statham will star opposite Peaky Blinders veteran Annabelle Wallis in Mutiny, which will be released on August 10. The film was previously dated for January 9 before being delayed to give the post-production team more time. Statham will also reprise his role as Adam Clay in The Beekeeper 2 early next year.
Is Jason Statham Coming Back in the Final ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie?
Practically nothing has been confirmed about the eleventh and final Fast & Furious movie, but it is expected that Statham will star in the film. This expectation comes from his cameo in Fast X, which teased that Deckard Shaw would be seen again in the final film. Fast X also teased the return of Dwayne Johnson, but three years later, it’s still unclear when it will be released. Vin Diesel has confirmed that the film will begin production early this year and that it will return to its roots with more street racing.
