He joined Collider as a News Author in April 2024, was promoted to a Senior position in December 2024, and has written over 3,000 articles for the site, including exclusives relating to Avengers: Doomsday, The Penguin, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and more. Fans around the world are raving about Jon Bernthal’s performance in his new Netflix series, His & Hers, but it isn’t the first time that he’s starred in a beloved limited series. In 2022, Bernthal teamed up with Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) for We Own This City, the gritty crime thriller show detailing the rise and fall of the Baltimore PD’s Gun Trace Task Force, and all the violent corruption surrounding it. The series has been hailed as a spiritual successor to The Wire, and it’s currently streaming on HBO Max, where it’s charged back into the top 10 in a few countries around the world.

Reinaldo Marcus Green directed all six episodes of We Own This City back in 2022, and he’s also been tapped to work with Bernthal on another exciting project coming soon. Green will serve as the lead writer and director on The Punisher special that will begin streaming on Disney+ sometime in the next few months. Bernthal will also make his feature writing debut on the project, marking the first time that he will write Frank Castle’s story instead of just portraying it on the screen. While still lacking an official date, the special is expected to release around the same time as Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Marvel has confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will begin streaming on March 4. After Bernthal had a sizeable role in Born Again Season 1, he will reportedly not appear in Season 2, likely due to the events of The Punisher special that will keep him occupied. However, he has been tapped to star in a much bigger Marvel project that The Punisher special will lead directly into.

Jon Bernthal Will Make His Big-Screen Debut As the Punisher This Year

Jon Bernthal has been tapped to star opposite Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie coming to theaters on July 31. The Punisher special will reportedly take Frank Castle into the events of Spider-Man 4, and fans remain hopeful that this will lead to Bernthal, Holland, and Ruffalo all having roles in Avengers: Doomsday. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the first time that Bernthal has played The Punisher in a movie, as he’s only previously starred in TV shows.
