Kim Kardashian is spilling the tea on those photos of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that mysteriously disappeared from her and mom Kris Jenner's social media posts. The photos, which were shared in celebration of the momager's 70th birthday party in November, were posted and then quickly taken down, but the reason has remained up for speculation — until now.
During part two of her sister Khloé Kardashian's Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, Kim addressed the matter — which the Kar-Jenner clan are calling "photogate" — for the first time.
It was really innocent, which is so crazy. Mom and Meghan have been friends for some years now, and they have a really sweet relationship.
In addition to Harry and Meghan, the James Bond-themed party, which was held at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's Beverly Hills mansion, featured a hoard of celebs, including Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Oprah Winfrey, Adele, Justin and Hailey Bieber, Mariah Carey, and many more. Jenner's post included a snap of her posing with Meghan and Harry, while Kim posed for a photo with Meghan. However, the images were later deleted from both accounts after the party, when Kim and her famous family were going through photos and deciding which ones to share on social media. That's when they got word that including the Sussexes in their photo roundup was no longer a good look.
We were told that it was totally cool to post. And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day, and they didn't want to be seen at a party, even though it's already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realized, like, 'Oh, this was so silly.'
And while Kim noted that the former royals had been photographed at the Baby2Baby charity gala that same night, they didn't so much want to be seen "partying and dancing on the dance floor or whatever," during what's traditionally a day of mourning.
"So we took them down to respect Remembrance Day," Kim shared. The holiday, held annually in November, is a Commonwealth memorial day honoring armed forces members who died in the line of duty, marking the end of WWI. Traditionally, members of the British royal family take time to honor, reflect, and pay respect to fallen soldiers from all conflicts at Remembrance Day events across the UK, often wearing poppies and observing two minutes of silence to mark the occasion.
Jenner's birthday party was held the night before active members of the royal family gathered at The Cenotaph memorial in London for the annual service, and while the post-and-delete put the Kar-Jenner's in an awkward position, Kim said you have to be able to "laugh" during situations like these.
You got to laugh at, like, the situation sometimes and just, like, lighten it up and be if everyone's taking it the wrong way, like, lean in. I was like, 'We should do a full Skims campaign.' Take the photo — even just us, like, I'll shoot you at mom, you know, post it and then delete it, like, 30 minutes later. And then I say, 'Oh, sorry, I didn't have permission to post those photos for the campaign.'
Kim continued, "If we just made it light and made it funny, you know, I think it would have been, like, received differently, but I hated how that was received for everyone. That sucks. It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous that just didn't have to be."
According to People, a source close to the couple told the outlet that at the time, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn't agree to have photos of them taken inside the party shared, and checked "no" on a photo consent form, leading to the images posted on Instagram to be removed.
A separate source shut down the claim, however, telling People that there were "no consent forms."
As for Meghan and Harry, they have yet to speak out on the matter and have not addressed Kim's claims of what went down that night. ScreenRant has reached out to the couple's reps for comment.
