Liz Tigelaar and her Best Day Every Productions banner have signed an overall deal with both Paramount TV Studios (PTVS) and CBS Studios.
This marks the first ever joint overall deal between PTVS and CBS Studios and the latest major signing for Paramount since the closing of the Paramount-Skydance merger last year.
“Having Liz join us at PTVS and CBS Studios for her next chapter feels like both a homecoming and a new beginning,” said David Stapf, president, CBS Studios, and Matt Thunell, president of PTVS, in a joint statement. “She is an extraordinary creative force with a unique voice that blends emotional truth, humor and humanity in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. We are eager, along with our teams, to collaborate with Liz once again as she continues to create and build worlds that reflect her bold storytelling and heart.”
Tigelaar previously had an overall deal at CBS Studios back in 2010. Under the new deal, Tigelaar and Abby Chambers, vice president of development for Best Day Ever, will work with the PTVS and CBS Studios teams to develop series for streaming and broadcast. PTVS and CBS Studios will produce all projects with Tigelaar under the pact.
“I am so thrilled to join not one but two incredible studios, each prolific at developing hit television,” Tigelaar said. “My history with this team runs deep; my admiration runs even deeper. Shelley brought me my first book adaptation, igniting what would become a passion. David wholeheartedly championed my first (and second!) pilot. Bryan was the studio executive in the trenches with me on my first show that went to series, Life Unexpected. And I have been so eager to work with Matt — a strategic leader and creative force. Together, we have a shared vision which will allow me to pursue my love of adaptations, while dreaming up new, impactful stories with heart and humor.”
Tigelaar most recently served as the showrunner on the Hulu drama series “Under the Bridge” and created the Kathryn Hahn-led Hulu show “Tiny Beautiful Things.” She is also known for her series adaptation of the Celeste Ng novel “Little Fires Everywhere” starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, which was nominated for the Emmy Award for outstanding limited series. Her other credits include “Casual,” “Nashville,” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “Revenge,” and “Bates Motel.”
Tigelaar is represented by UTA and Wendy Kirk at Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
The joint pact between CBS Studios and PTVS comes as the latter brand was revived last year as a separate production unit under Thunell upon the closing the merger. Tigelaar’s signing also comes as Paramount has made a concerted effort to bring in more female voices.
To that end, Parmaount+ recently picked up the true crime series “Fear Not” starring Anne Hathaway from Bash Doran, while the streamer previously commissioned the legal drama “Discretion” starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, which was announced in October
