Fans are waiting on pins and needles to see what Mark Wahlberg has in store for 2026, but before his first movie of the year arrives, everyone is rushing to check out one of his more controversial releases on VOD. In 2021, Wahlberg teamed up with Chiwetel Ejiofor for Infinite, the critically reviled sci-fi thriller following a man who discovers that his hallucinations are actually visions from past lives. Infinite was a straight-to-streaming release for Paramount a few years ago, but the film has since been added to Pluto TV’s free streaming library, where it’s become one of the platform’s most popular movies.

Infinite was originally planned to be released in theaters in 2020, but the film was delayed when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down movie theaters. This left Paramount in a tough spot, as marketing for the film had already begun. However, it’s hard to convince audiences to show up to the theater for a movie when the trailer first came out a year ago. This led to the studio ultimately deciding that the film should be released straight to streaming on Paramount+.

Infinite was met with extremely poor reviews from both critics and audiences — it’s one of the lowest-rated movies of Mark Wahlberg’s career. It currently sits at abysmal scores of 17% and 34% on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Ian Shorr and Todd Stein wrote the script for Infinite, and the film is based on the novel The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz. Antoine Fuqua directed the film between working on Denzel Washington’s Equalizer movies. Fuqua is also known for his Oscar-winning work directing Washington’s 2001 crime thriller, Training Day, and he teamed up with Will Smith a few years ago for Emancipation.

When Does Mark Wahlberg’s Next Movie Come Out?

Mark Wahlberg does not have another movie on the release schedule, but he does have a few projects in the works that could be released this year. The most likely candidate to be released sooner rather than later is Balls Up, the R-rated action comedy that also stars Paul Walter Hauser and Daniela Melchior. The film is already complete, but it’s still awaiting distribution. Wahlberg will also star in a new crime thriller, By Any Means, alongside Giancarlo Esposito, which is currently in post-production without a release date.
