‘Neighbors’ Trailer: HBO Reality Series From ‘Marty Supreme’ Team Follows Absurd Residential Conflicts

HBO and A24 have unveiled the trailer for “Neighbors,” a new reality series from the producers of “Marty Supreme” that examines outrageous residential conflicts, revealing the extreme lengths neighbors will go to defend what’s theirs.

Each installment of the six-episode late-night show, premiering Feb. 13 at 9 p.m., introduces a new set of larger-than-life neighbors “in the heat of their grievances, uncovering spirited disputes about property lines, animal ownership, and even a yellow Speedo.”

“Neighbors” is directed by Harrison Fishman and Dylan Redford, who filmed the series over the course of two years, traveling across the country and immersing themselves in their subjects’ lives. The show moves from Montana ranches to Florida beaches to Indiana suburbs. It marks A24’s first unscripted series.

In an interview with Esquire, Fishman and Redford said the inspiration behind “Neighbors” is their morbid obsession with viral videos of fights between neighbors.

“What really got us interested was the idea that, when you’re watching these videos, you’re only seeing one perspective,” Fishman said. “We were interested in the story behind those videos. The world behind that one video, and the other person and what their side of the story was.”

They didn’t set out to mock their subjects. “There is competing truth we empathize with and understand,” said Redford. “We’re not interested in approaching them as crazy, kooky people because we don’t believe that. We fundamentally believe that what they’re dealing with is real, takes up a lot of space emotionally and psychologically, and we want to validate that.”

The show is executive produced by “Marty Supreme” team Josh Safdie, Eli Bush, Ronald Bronstein and JP Lopez Ali for Central Pictures. Fishman, Redford and A24 are also executive producers.
