Nike Releases New Air Jordan 9 Retro ‘Flint Grey and French Blue’ Sneakers: Here’s Where To Buy a Pair Online

Although Michael Jordan retired (for the first time) from the NBA a month earlier, Nike still released the NBA superstar’s signature basketball sneakers the Air Jordan 9 in Nov. 1993. Instead of spending his retirement at the golf course, Jordan joined the minor league team Birmingham Barons in the hopes of being called up to the Chicago White Sox in the MLB.

Jordan never worn them on the court when they were first released, but he did wear a cleated-version of the shoes on the baseball diamond. And if you look closely at Jordan’s statue in front of the United Center in Chicago, it’s wearing the Air Jordan 9 sneakers on its feet. Additionally, when MJ returned to basketball for the second time to play for the Washington Wizards, he did rock a pair during games in 2002.

And over 30 years after their original debut, Nike is rereleasing the Air Jordan 9 Retro “Flint Grey and French Blue” sneakers on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT.

Priced at $215, the Nike Air Jordan 9 Retro “Flint Grey and French Blue” sneakers feature “Air” soles for additional bounce and cushioning with a rubber outsole for traction and grip. It’s unique one-pull lacing design give the signature shoes a clean and retro mid-’90s look. The sneakers are lightweight and made from a minimalistic genuine leather upper for toughness and grit.

Meanwhile, they feature Michael Jordan’s No. 23 on their heels, while the “Jumpman” logo can be found above the number and each outsole. The silhouette is very recognizable, while these sneakers come in a white, flint grey and French blue colorway for old and new generations of fans, alike.
