The next two GameCube games headed to Nintendo Switch 2 via the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service appear to have leaked, possibly ahead of the rumored February 5 Nintendo Direct. While nothing has been officially confirmed, it looks like subscribers are about to get two fan-favorite GameCube classics.

We're now over half a year into the Nintendo Switch 2 generation, and while the console is still young, one of the most exciting promised features was the inclusion of Nintendo GameCube games. It's been pretty slow to get started, however, with a pretty small selection of gamers over the last seven months.

The Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Library Is Expanding

It's finally happening

Since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, the following GameCube games have been slowly added to the Nintendo Switch Online service:

  • The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker
  • Soulcalibur 2
  • F-Zero GX
  • Super Mario Strikers
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Chibi-Robo!
  • Wario World
  • Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance

When the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced we were also promised:

  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
  • Pokemon Colosseum

Funnily enough, the two leaked games are not any of the three above. According to a recent Walmart promotional image (via Wario64) Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2 are joining Nintendo Switch Online's GameCube library. If the rumors of a February 5 Nintendo Direct are to be believed, that's almost certainly where these games will be announced.

Both Of These Games Are Great Sequels

But not everyone will be happy

Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 are excellent sequels, but I'm not sure everyone will be happy about this. For starters, I think many of us were holding out hope after Metroid Prime Remastered and Metroid Prime 4 that we'd get remasters of Prime 2 and Prime 3. The Nintendo GameCube version of this game is also brutally difficult compared to the Nintendo Wii re-release, which made some welcome tweaks to bosses and overall damage.

Then there's Pikmin 2, which has already been re-released for Nintendo Switch as an HD remaster. Not the most exciting addition to Nintendo Switch Online when a souped-up version of the game is already available elsewhere.

Still, both games are excellent in their own right, and if Nintendo Switch 2 gamers are discovering these titles for the first time, that can only be a good thing. Just please be aware I'm not remotely joking when I say Metroid Prime 2 is brutal. It will kick your ass.
