A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. With a mind like a steel trap, he's an endless fount of movie and TV trivia, borne from a misspent youth of watching monster movies on TV, perusing the sun-faded goods at the local video rental shop, and staining his fingers with ink from the Video Movie Guide. Areas of interest include science fiction, film noir, horror flicks, '70s disaster pictures, Bond movies, '90s action, giant robots, dinosaurs, super heroes, and the exuberantly schlocky output of Cannon Films. He also enjoys both Star Trek and Star Wars when they're good, and maybe even more when they're bad. As a Canadian, he also has a vested interest in Canadian movies and TV shows, especially the cheesier ones dubbed "Canuxploitation."
An expert on Marvel Comics, he has also written for the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, and is a member of the Marvel Research Team. He can frequently be found pontificating on comic-book continuity or bemoaning the misfortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs on his Twitter account.
Pressure, the upcoming historical drama about the most consequential weather forecast in history, has its place on the release calendar. Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott star in the film, which chronicles the events leading up to the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. Pressure will arrive in theaters just days before the 78th anniversary of D-Day, on May 29, 2026.
According to reports, May 29th will sandwich Pressure between two aspiring blockbusters: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first big-screen Star Wars movie in seven years, will arrive in theaters the week before on May 22, while Amazon MGM Studios' live-action Masters of the Universe will invade theaters on June 5. May 22 also brings Boots Riley's long-awaited new satirical comedy, I Love Boosters, while June 5 is also home to the animation-live-action hybrid Animal Friends and the Paul Rudd musical comedy Power Ballad. May 29 is largely bereft of major releases so far: Pressure shares it with the Melissa Leo horror film Passenger, and with the RuPaul-starring drag-themed action comedy Stop! That! Train!
What Is 'Pressure' About?
Based on actual events, which were then adapted into a stage play by David Haig, Pressure centers around the nerve-racking days leading up to the Allied invasion of Normandy. Scott stars as James Stagg, a meteorologist working with the Allies and tasked with finding the ideal day to launch what would be the largest seaborne invasion in history. Inclement weather on the planned day could spell diaster for the invasion and turn the tides of the war, so Stagg's job was of the utmost importance. With time ticking down, Stagg struggles to convince his superiors to push the invasion back a day to avoid a storm that could end the Allies' quest to save Europe from the tyranny of the Third Reich. Fraser stars as General Dwight Eisenhower, the Allied commander who had the ultimate say on the invasion's date. Also starring in the film are Kerry Condon as Kay Summersby, Eisenhower's assistant; Chris Messina as Irving P. Krick, a rival American meteorologist; Damian Lewis as Bernard Montgomery, the commander of the British forces; and Con O'Neill as Allied air commander Trafford Leigh-Mallory.
Pressure is directed by Anthony Maras (Hotel Mumbai); he also co-wrote the script with Haig, adapting the latter's 2014 play. It is a production of StudioCanal.
Pressure will be released in theaters on May 29, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
