EXCLUSIVE: Rupert Friend is set to join Sharon Horgan in the HBO comedy series Youth, from Horgan’s production banner Merman. Deadline first reported HBO was picking up the series last year after Horgan and her company signed a first look deal with HBO.
The series follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown up son.
Youth is produced by Merman. Horgan stars in, writes, and executive produces the series. Additional executive producers are Faye Dorn (Merman), Jim Kleverweis, and Dawn Shadforth, who also will direct.
This marks a return to HBO for Horgan who created and executive produced the network’s 2016 comedy series Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, which ran for three seasons.
As for Friend, he is best known for his role in Homeland. He was most recently seen in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme as well as the relaunch of the Jurassic World series, Jurassic World: Rebirth. He is repped by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and UTA.
