‘Saturday Night Live UK’ Sets Former ‘Top Gear’ EP As Commissioning Executive

A former Top Gear exec has been appointed as Commissioning Executive on the upcoming Saturday Night Live UK.

Lisa Clark has joined Sky to work with the unscripted team led by Phil Edgar-Jones on the highly-anticipated British version of the hit American studio show.

She is a former EP on Top Gear whose past credits also include the BAFTA TV Awards, Comic Relief and Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. Clark was brought to Top Gear by then-host Chris Evans to help with a reinvention a decade ago, although she left soon after.

As previously announced, James Longman (lead producer), Liz Clare (director) and Daran Jonno Johnson (head writer) will lead the show’s production, direction and writing teams. Late last year, Edgar-Jones said casting was “well underway” on SNL UK. Sky’s briefing document said candidates are being asked to cast each sketch with a potential SNL guest host, with successful candidates needing to be available from mid-January to early April before the show launches later this year.

Edgar-Jones said: “The SNL UK team are made up of the very best producers, writers, and department heads in the industry, so I am thrilled to have landed a true TV legend in Lisa Clark as Sky’s commissioning executive. Lisa has an incredible track record working collaboratively with some of the finest comedy talent in the business and will be a huge asset to the production.”

Clark added: “This is an incredible team to be a part of. I have always loved the thrill of live television and there is no greater stage for live comedy than SNL.”

SNL UK will be produced by Universal Television Alternative Studio’s UK production team and Broadway Video for Sky and NOW. UTAS UK Productions is overseen by Managing Director Helen Kruger Bratt. Shanna Baynard will serve as executive in charge of production; Andy Charles Smith is the lead producer for UTAS UK Productions alongside Sam Salter, production executive.
