With a catalog full of exceptional titles, Apple TV has established itself as the premier hub for long-form sci-fi. The streaming service's flagship show remains Severance, which premiered in 2022 to exceptional reviews and was a major factor in bringing Apple TV into the mainstream. Despite fresh competition, it doesn't seem like Severance is going anywhere soon. This week, the show passed a major milestone on the domestic Apple TV charts, even though it was hovering in the bottom half of the top 10 list. Created by Dan Erickson, the show is headlined by Adam Scott and executive produced by Ben Stiller, who has also directed numerous episodes.

According to FlixPatrol, Severance has spent 700 days on the domestic Apple TV charts, more than any other show currently in the top 10. Over the last couple of years, Severance has faced competition in the form of fellow sci-fi shows such as Invasion, Foundation, Silo, and most recently, Pluribus. Created by Breaking Bad legend Vince Gilligan, Pluribus debuted to near-unanimous praise from critics last year, and is still among the top five most-watched titles on Apple. It has, however, surrendered the number one spot to the thriller series Hijack, starring Idris Elba. Critically speaking, no other show has posed a bigger challenge to Severance than Pluribus, which currently holds a near-perfect 98% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

'Severance' Has Been Acclaimed for its Mind-Bending Narrative and Philosophical Heft

By comparison, Severance holds an overall 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the first season at 97% and the second at 94%. Severance is also among the most expensive shows currently on the air, with a reported production cost of around $20 million per episode. The show is set in an alternate future where people can use technology to separate their lives into two halves — personal and professional. But when the two realities begin to collide, a conspiracy is revealed. Severance also stars Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken. You can watch the show on Apple TV, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
