Silo season 3 is on the way at Apple TV, and the show's highly anticipated return will make the wait time for the streamer's other prestige sci-fi shows a bit easier to handle. Based on Hugh Howey's novel series, Silo instantly became a hit for Apple TV when it was first released in late 2023.
Having Rebecca Ferguson as the lead character of Silo's cast is certainly an advantage, but the dystopian story about people living underground as society is on the brink of an uprising makes for a thrilling TV adaptation.
Silo season 2's ending also introduced a new timeline for the show to dive into, making the future of the show even more exciting. And it looks like fans won't need to wait long for the show's return, which isn't the case for other popular sci-fi titles.
Silo Season 3 Is Expected To Return In 2026
Custom Image by Yailin Chacon.Silo season 2's ending aired in January 2025, but before then, Apple TV had already renewed the show for a third and fourth season. Filming for season 3 also started before season 2 concluded, giving the show a jump in avoiding production delays.
While Silo season 3's recent update suggests that the series won't be back in the coming months, it's still expected to premiere in 2026. Silo was notably missing from Apple TV's promo teaser for titles set to release in early 2026.
Still, that doesn't mean there's a reason to be concerned that a massive delay is on the horizon. The third season wrapped up filming in May 2025, with production on the fourth and final season starting just three months later. Barring any major surprises, there will be new Silo episodes in 2026.
Silo's Return Makes Waiting For Pluribus & Severance Much Easier
Jon Pack /©Apple TV+ / Courtesy Everett CollectionEven if Silo season 3 doesn't come out until the second half of 2026, it will still help make up for the absence of two other Apple TV sci-fi hits. Severance made its grand return in January 2025 after first debuting on the streamer in 2022. Thankfully, Severance season 2 was worth the wait, but the long gaps between seasons remain frustrating.
While Severance was renewed for season 3, it's not expected any time soon. There's hope that the show could aim for 2027, but right now, it's tough to even speculate, since there haven't been any confirmed production updates regarding filming. The same can be said for Pluribus, the most recent sci-fi release on Apple TV, which also instantly gained masterpiece status.
Vince Gilligan's Pluribus was renewed for season 2 before the show debuted on Apple TV. The first season came to an end in December 2025, and while it's currently garnering more attention during awards season, there's no word on production for season 2 or when fans can expect the sci-fi thriller to return.
Apple TV+ Has Several Other Sci-Fi Shows Worth Watching
Aside from Silo, Apple TV offers plenty of other stellar TV shows to watch while waiting for titles like Pluribus and Severance. Many of which also fall into the sci-fi genre. The next few months of 2026 will see the return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and For All Mankind, which is gearing up for its fifth season.
Though return dates have not been announced, sci-fi shows like Foundation and Murderbot were renewed following their latest installments in 2025. There's also Dark Matter, the adaptation of Blake Crouch's hit novel. Following its debut in 2024 and subsequent season 2 renewal, it could very well join Silo as another notable sci-fi show returning in 2026.
