Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider.  He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.

Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.

Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

Having enjoyed an incredible high in the first weeks after debuting on PVOD platforms, the Finnish-language action film Sisu: Road to Revenge is surging once more on streaming charts in the new year. Considering the solid audience scores of the spectacularly violent film, this resurgence on the charts is more than expected. One of the most adored WWII dramas of the past year on streaming, Sisu: Road to Revenge's theatrical run was a disappointment, as it failed to recover its reported budget. It also fell short of the $10 million mark, which meant earning only half of the first film. Released in 2022, the first Sisu was a hit, mainly due to word-of-mouth as the film gained more and more fans across the globe, ultimately prompting the release of a sequel.

Based on data from FlixPatrol, Sisu 2 has established itself once more in the Top 10 on several digital platforms in multiple countries. While it might have underperformed at the box office, the sequel, which boasts a Certified Fresh 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, still has significant appeal with its streaming audience. Road to Revenge and the original film, Sisu, were both written and directed by Jalmari Helander.

In both films, the lead role is played by Jorma Tommila, a former Finnish commando with a persistent and inventive approach towards violence. In the 2022 film, the Nazis were the target of Aatami Korpi's wrath as they simply would not relent from attempting to steal his gold. In Road to Revenge, Korpi's wrath turns towards Soviet adversaries, with Avatar and House of David star Stephen Lang cast as the main villain. Lang's Igor Draganov is a Soviet Red Army officer responsible for killing Korpi's family. In the ensuing contest, the seemingly indestructible Finnish commando continues on a murderous rampage that is both worrisome and impressive.

Will There Be a Third 'Sisu' Movie?

Sisu 2, first premiered at the Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2025, before smashing into U.S. theaters on November 21, courtesy of Sony Pictures, releasing through Stage 6 Films and Screen Gems. Praised for its action by critics and audiences on the aggregator website, Rotten Tomatoes, the site's consensus on the film reads, "Sisu: Road to Revenge consistently and creatively kills the competition." With a critics' score of 95% and an audience score of 87%, there can be no doubt of its appeal.

In his review of the sequel, Collider's Jeff Ewing was mightily impressed, writing that Sisu 2 "builds off the gleeful, comic-level brutality of the original." Setting aside the box office numbers and focusing on the sequel's reception, there is a case to be made for a third Sisu film. In that regard, director Helander previously shared regarding a third installment: "I like to think that this is a very beautiful ending for the story of Aatami Korpi. But at the same time, you never know. Some day, I might have an idea for the third one. Let's see."

Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
