Last week, we were treated to the news that Amazon MGM Studios has announced that production is now underway on the long-awaited Tomb Raider series. Not only was the iconic video game franchise getting the big streaming series treatment, but Game of Thrones favorite Sophie Turner would be stepping into the legendary shoes of Lara Croft, with a first-look image of the character inciting high-profile backlash from some.

In the shadow of the production of the new Tomb Raider series, another Turner-led project has made its streaming debut also on Prime Video, and the first reviews are officially in. Following all six episodes of the high-stakes thriller Steal dropped on Prime today, reviews have continued to stream in, with the series splitting critics down the middle and earning a 63% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Created by S.A. Nikias, the series stars the Emmy-nominated Turner alongside Archie Madekwe and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, with the latter last seen in Season 2 of The Rig.

A synopsis of the series reads:

"Steal is a contemporary, high-octane thriller about the heist of the century and the ordinary office worker, Zara (Turner), who finds herself at the heart of it. A typical work day at a pension fund investment company, Lochmill Capital, is upended when a gang of violent thieves burst in and force Zara and her best mate Luke (Madekwe) to execute their demands. But who would steal billions of pounds of ordinary people’s pensions and why? DCI Rhys (Fortune-Lloyd) is determined to find out, but as a recently relapsed gambling addict, Rhys must keep his own money problems at bay while dealing with the secret agendas and competing interests at the center of this far-reaching crime."

'Steal' Is an "Addictive Binge-Watch"

Although some have commented on the show's convoluted finale and lack of development for supporting characters, others, including Collider's Therese Lacson in her official review, have called the six-episode series an "addictive binge-watch," making it a perfect option for Prime subscribers. "As far as crime thrillers go, Steal is an easy and addictive binge, keeping the viewer on their toes while Zara tries to uncover the truth," Lacson said, adding, "It's far from a masterpiece, but it's still satisfying enough for crime thriller lovers."

Steal is streaming now in full on Prime Video. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for all the latest updates on the freshest shows.
