Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.
Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.
Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.
Steam has made yet another game free to download and keep for a limited time. There are tons of free games available on Valve's digital storefront, but every now and again a developer will drop the price of their normally paid game down to completely nothing. This one you've only got 24 hours to grab before it goes back to full price, so you'll want to be quick.
From now until January 29 at 6pm you have the chance to download and keep the 2016 narrative adventure Along The Edge. In terms of sheer quality, this is probably the best Steam freebie to have come along in a while, so I'd urge you to check it out while you can.
Along The Edge Is 100% Off
Be quick or lose it
Developed and published by Nova-box, Along The Edge is a supernatural adventure with an utterly gorgeous visual style. It follows a character called Daphné, who decides to leave everything behind to start a new life in the French countryside. Sounds nice. It's here that she discovers she's actually the last descendant of a line of witches, and spookiness ensues. Well, not really spookiness. More strange goings-on than anything properly horrifying.
Here's the synopsis:
"Daphné is at a dead end. When she inherits her remote family estate in the French countryside, she also inherits a generational feud between her family, the Delatours, and the mighty Malterres. At the same time, Frank, the father of the child they lost, is back to patch things up, but Daphné must also juggle the insistent courtship of a new suitor, her work as a teacher in the local middle school, rumours of witchery attached to her name, and this mysterious condemned tower, in the center of her castle."
The game promises multiple paths for you to take, a huge cast of characters, and even some romance options. It's a pretty impressive game, one that marries a genuinely interesting story with lots of unique choices.
Not Interested? No Problem
Steam's got lots to offer
If you're not really into visual novels, that's fine! They certainly aren't for everyone, and there are tons of other limited-time freebies available on Steam right now. One you'll want to grab before it's gone is the RPG Wayfinder, which is free to play (but not keep) until January 29. Then there's Cursedland, which is free to download and keep for the next five days. Then there's Kiki, which has some pretty negative reviews, but is still free, so... your call, really.
There are new free games added to Steam all the time, so be sure to come back soon. I'll be waiting with more freebies. Well, I won't be waiting, because I have other things to do, but I will be here.
