In the DCU's Superman, David Corenswet's Man of Steel faced off against the cinematic version of his dark opposite Ultraman (also played by David Corenswet.)

Now, in Superman's next adventure, he'll be facing Batman's dark opposite, the ultra-skilled sociopath known as Owlman.

PART TWO OF DAY FOR NIGHT! Escape from Earth-Three! Superman and Batman are trapped on a parallel world where evil reigns, facing their counterparts Ultraman and Owlman... and their powerful allies. If our heroes are to save themselves, they may have to find the darkness within themselves!

While Owlman may not have Batman's heroism, he's just as skilled, and his abilities aren't held back by a 'no kill' vow. Owlman fought Batman to a standstill, carries gadgets to one-shot heavyweights like Flash and Martian Manhunter, and has an army of Robin-esque sidekicks he's willing to use as cannon fodder.

What's worse, this time Owlman and Ultraman will be fighting on their home ground, with Batman and Superman trapped in the dark reality of Earth-3.

This Is the Perfect Match-Up for World's Finest

Batman/Superman: World's Finest has become a cornerstone of DC's comic line, depicting the past adventures of its two most iconic heroes and setting up new storylines for other titles in the process. With that premise, it only makes sense for their dark opposites to take the spotlight in this new arc, inverting the series' core concept before bringing Batman and Superman crashing back.

A lot of comics have explored Earth-3, but like the main DC Universe it's always in flux, and it will be a particular treat to see this world's villains-turned-heroes - obvious allies for Batman and Superman to call on. And make no mistake - they'll need the help.

When Superman and Batman clash, it's usually Batman who claims the win. Not only is Bruce Wayne prepared to take advantage of all Superman's weaknesses, but he's simply a crueler, more cynical fighter. All of that is true of Owlman, who goes even further in his willingness to kill and his lack of care for civilian casualties.

It's basically a sure bet that Owlman has both Kryptonite and his own Dark Knight Returns-style mech suit, especially because the genius supervillain is constantly plotting against Ultraman to seize control of the planet. Indeed, the lack of friendship and respect between Owlman and Ultraman is basically the only weapon that Superman and Batman will have to their advantage when this clash of opposites kicks off in March.

Batman/Superman: World's Finest #48 is coming February 18 from DC Comics, followed by issue 19 on March 18.
