One of Apple TV’s biggest hits is returning later this year: the streamer confirmed that season 4 of Ted Lasso will premiere this summer. There’s no firm date beyond that, but the announcement marks an important moment for the service, as the show, which is one of Apple TV’s most popular series, has been dormant for several years.
Ted Lasso’s third season wrapped up back in 2023, and at the time appeared to mark the end of the series. But Apple confirmed that a season 4 was in the works last year, and followed that up with a first-look image in July. To keep things going, the show will kick off a new storyline that sees Ted (Jason Sudeikis) taking the reins at AFC Richmond’s new women’s soccer team.
Fittingly, season 4 will feature a mix of returning cast members and newcomers. In addition to Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift will all be back. The cast also includes new faces like Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely. On the creative side, the show is adding Jack Burditt — best-known for his work on sitcoms like 30 Rock and Modern Family — as an executive producer. The addition is part of “a new overall deal with Apple TV” for Burditt.
The news comes as Apple is making efforts to expand the reach of its streaming service, which so far has included a rebrand, further expansion into live sports, and more high-profile series like Pluribus from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan. The return of a broadly popular sitcom Ted Lasso fits into that strategy nicely, though we’ll have to wait to see if the show’s second arc hits as well as its debut.
