Marvel's Sentry just underwent a terrifying transformation, turning him from conflicted hero to the galaxy's greatest predator. It's all happening as Sentry makes his grand return to Marvel lore.
Zombie Sentry Unleashes Marvel's Strongest Bite
In a preview of The End 2099 #2 - from Steve Orlando, Ibraim Roberson, Andrew Dalhouse and Joe Caramagna - the battle between Abyssus and Mephisto continues, with each unleashing their army of superheroes against the other. As the heroes of Earth-2099 fight for Mephisto, Abyssus unleashes a zombified Sentry.
The Sentry of Earth-91126 (aka Earth-Z) is responsible for the total destruction of multiple realities, carrying a highly contagious zombie virus that specifically targets superhumans. The villain is a major antagonist in the original Marvel Zombies series, acting as the first and last zombie in a time loop that razed multiple words in the multiverse.
With his speed, strength and ability to warp reality, Sentry is the most powerful being on Earth. Infected with a zombie virus, he's not just a dangerous villain - he's a weapon of mass destruction capable of consuming entire realities. And with his strength channeled into his bite, he's capable of chowing down on King Gladiator - one of the most durable beings in Marvel lore.
Our Take on the Return of Zombie Sentry
In The End 2099, a Galactus infected by the King in Black has decided to consume Earth-2099, eating the souls of all life so that they can't pass on. Mephisto has assembled the heroes of this reality to fight back, but Galactus has pulled soldiers from all across the multiverse.
While a lot of impressive characters have returned for this fight, zombie Sentry is bigger news than most. That's because the Sentry was effectively imprisoned in a time loop by the Watcher, spreading the virus to only a select number of worlds. However, Galactus just broke the zombie Sentry out of that prison - and he already bit a new victim.
The End 2099 started with the fate of one world in the balance, but zombie Sentry may be the real threat. He has a proven ability to bring multiple realities to ruin, and if he isn't locked back up in his time loop prison, he'll do it again.
It's Not Long Until the True Sentry Returns to Earth-616
Fans haven't seen the Sentry for a while, but 2026 is shaping up to be the Golden Guardian of Good's year. Not only is the zombie Sentry showcasing his immense power, but March will see the launch of a new Sentry series from Paul Jenkins and Christian Rosado, returning the mainstream version from death (but this time not as the flesh-hungry undead.)
The Sentry is an impossibly strong character, and he can't help but change the fate of any world he finds himself in. Whether as a zombie or a reborn hero, there's no bigger powerhouse than the Sentry - as the heroes of Earth-2099 are learning to their cost.
The End 2099 #2 is coming from Marvel Comics 28 January, while Sentry #1 is coming March 18.
