Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.
Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.
Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.
Looking for that next big game to take your life over? Steam is usually the best place to go for that. Even better, if you're trying to save up your money, Steam is home to a huge number of free games that can be downloaded and played with no subscription at all. The only catch is there are so many free games on Steam it can be hard to know where to invest your time.
Well, here's one for you. This particular title offers up to 1,500 hours of content, and while you absolutely don't need to put close to that much time into this game to get the most from it, it'll definitely keep you entertained for a long time to come.
Rec Room Has Limitless Potential
So much gameplay
If you've never heard of Rec Room, it's basically an online chat room where players can create, share, and generally just hang out. It's a little bit like Roblox I guess, but for a slightly older audience and less controversial. Anyway, it's a game with near-limitless potential and loads to do, and it's been completely free on Steam since it first launched back in 2016.
"Rec Room is the best place to build and play games together," explains developer and publisher Rec Room. "Party up with friends from all around the world to chat, hang out, explore MILLIONS of player-created rooms, or build something new and amazing to share with us all."
According to How Long To Beat, you could easily put at least 1,700 hours into Rec Room as you attempt to work through its various offerings. There are games to play, worlds to explore, and friends to hang out with. Well I guess that last one is really up to you and what you're like as a person. I can't guarantee friends.
It’s Still Going Strong Today
We can see why
Rec Room has an 88% positive rating on Steam based on over 55,000 reviews, and still brings in thousands of players every single day, so it very much has an active and thriving community.
If you're on Steam and looking for something a little different, there really is a lot going on in Rec Room. It might not be for you, but if it's somehow flown under your radar for the last 10 years, go check it out now!
