In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom

2025 marked a major milestone in the career of Tom Cruise, as he suited up for one last time as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. The movie may have had an Impossible task doubling its frankly eye-watering production budget at the box office, but there's no doubt that the final installment in the iconic franchise was a hit. However, The Final Reckoning didn't even come close to lacing up the boots of another of Cruise's action heroes, who returned in a genre-defining 2022 sequel and is currently partnering the last Mission: Impossible installment in the streaming charts.

At the time of writing, the all-conquering Top Gun: Maverick is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in the U.S. Labeled one of the greatest action movies of this century, Maverick was co-written by The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also delivered a pulse-racing 2025 summer blockbuster with F1. Alongside Cruise in a star-studded cast are the likes of Miles Teller, Monica Barbaro, and Glen Powell, with the latter's recent remake of The Running Man topping the very same streaming chart. For those yet to be swept away on the wing of a Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, a synopsis for Top Gun: Maverick reads:

"After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Teller), call sign: 'Rooster,' the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka 'Goose.' Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it."

'Top Gun: Maverick' Is One of the Highest-Grossing Movies of All Time

Heading into the release of this long-awaited legacy sequel, expectations were high for box office success. However, few could've predicted just how successful Top Gun: Maverick would be, especially in a post-COVID world. Made for a reported $177 million, the movie returned an eye-watering $1.45 billion worldwide. Split between a domestic haul of $718.7 million and a further $733.4 million from overseas markets, Maverick is the 15th highest-grossing movie of all time.

Top Gun: Maverick is streaming on Paramount+. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
