It’s been over five years since Greyhound began streaming on Apple TV, but now fans of the beloved WWII movie have an exciting update about its confirmed sequel. News broke earlier this month that star and writer Tom Hanks has arrived in Australia to begin filming Greyhound 2. Buried in the report last year that the sequel was in the works was the news that Apple planned to begin filming the sequel in January — it’s sticking to that timeline strictly. Little else is known about Greyhound 2 at this time, but it could be released as early as next year if production goes according to plan.

Over the last six years, Greyhound has quietly become one of Apple TV’s most successful movies. The film was met with positive reception from both critics and audiences, leading to scores of 78% from the former and 76% from the latter on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It was released straight to streaming on Apple TV in 2020, though, so it did not report any box office earnings. Hanks initially expressed his discontent with this, but he later softened his stance, thanking Apple for giving the movie a chance — it may have been axed if not picked up by Apple.

Greyhound has had several stints in the Apple TV top 10 over the last few years. It continues to outlast newer arrivals, and even when it does find itself out of the top 10, it usually isn’t long before it reclaims its spot. Once Apple TV confirms that the sequel is indeed in production and begins marketing, Greyhound will likely find even more streaming success than it has over the last year. It’s a force to be reckoned with on Apple TV.

What Other Tom Hanks Movies Are on Streaming?

On Netflix, Tom Hanks fans can watch what many would argue is his most famous movie, Forrest Gump. Hanks also reunited with the Forrest Gump crew a few years ago for Here, which has also been streaming on Netflix since it flopped at the box office. Hanks’s forgotten baseball movie set during WWII, A League of Their Own, is also streaming on Netflix for now. Apple TV subscribers should also check out Finch, a dystopian sci-fi thriller that was released on Apple the year after Greyhound.

Check out Greyhound on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the sequel.
