The 2026 World Economic Forum has been an eventful one. However, the POTUS has been front and center for many of the reports. Donald Trump has spoken on many topics, including Iceland, being called "Daddy," and now informing the room that "sometimes you need a dictator," while referring to himself.

Trump was referring to his previous speech given at Davos during the World Economic Forum. He noted that he had received good reviews for his talk. In it, he spoke of NATO, Canada, Iceland, and Europe. According to the president, the crowd enjoyed what he had to say.

"We had a good speech, we got great reviews. I can’t believe it, we got good reviews on that speech," he explained. He is aware that he can sometimes receive a less-than-favorable response to what he has to say. However, this time around, he had allegedly gone down well.

But what he said next had a few people scratching their heads. Rather than leave it at that, Trump decided to refer to himself as a dictator.

"Usually they say, ‘He’s a horrible dictator-type person,’ I’m a dictator. But sometimes you need a dictator! But they didn’t say that in this case.… It’s all based on common sense, it’s not conservative or liberal, or anything else."

Trump showed a clear level of self-awareness regarding his public image in the political world, referring to how some politicians and officials view his various policies and international approaches. However, he did little to dispel them by instead doubling down.

Rather than refute claims that he was the dictator that some refer to him as, he confirmed their suspicions. It turns out, Trump believes that sometimes the world needs a dictator. He added that he's willing to step up to the plate.

However, the claim has not gone down particularly well online. The clip went viral on various social media platforms, and the response has been as expected. Some have pointed towards the rumors of Trump's dementia, claiming that his self-proclaimed dictatorship is a sign of a weakening mind.

Others are noting that this is perhaps how he sees himself. They are worried that this kind of mentality will justify unfavorable political acts by the President of the United States. The country is still a democracy for now, and Trump is aware of this.

For the time being, this is simply another statement made by Trump at the World Economic Forum that will need explaining when he returns to US soil.
