Three years after the show's cancellation, two NCIS: Los Angeles stars are reuniting for a new mystery movie, …And Then She Was Gone. The long-running NCIS spinoff aired from 2009 to 2023 before it was canceled by CBS after 14 seasons.
Now, three years later, NCIS: Los Angeles stars Daniela Ruah, who starred as Special Agent Kensi Blye, and Natalia del Riego, who played her adopted daughter Rosa Reyes, are reuniting for a new mystery movie, …And Then She Was Gone. Filming is set to begin in Fall 2026, according to Deadline.
Based on the novel The Moonlight Child by Karen McQuestion, the story follows a former foster child, a 19-year-old named Niki, as she adjusts to a new way of life under the roof of Sharon Lemke. "When they notice a mysterious girl in the house next door, the duo investigate and reveal a haunting truth," the synopsis reads.
The film will be directed by Tawnia McKiernan, whose TV credits include NCIS, Criminal Minds, Supergirl, The Cleaning Lady, and The Walking Dead, with a script written by Justin Kohlas, who was a writer on NCIS: Los Angeles, where he met Daniela Ruah, who also serves as an executive producer. They shared the following statements:
Daniela Ruah: I was immediately drawn to both McQuestion’s book and Justin’s screenplay — he has such a wonderful instinct for keeping us on our toes as the plot unfolds. Having worked together for over a decade, I’m very excited to continue telling great stories with Justin, this time in a new role.
Tawnia McKiernan: I immediately fell in love with this book, and the way Justin has adapted it for the screen feels like a slice of Hitchcockian heaven. When Daniela and Natalia came aboard, both actors I’ve had the pleasure of directing before, I didn’t hesitate. With this creative team in place, I knew I had to be part of it.
Karen McQuestion: I am grateful to the readers who made The Moonlight Child such a huge success and I’m excited for the opportunity to see the story evolve as a feature film.
Following a 14-season run on the hit CBS series NCIS: Los Angeles, Daniela Ruah most recently appeared in the Portuguese-language HBO Max miniseries O Grito, while Natalia del Riego recently starred in the Netflix Western series The Abandons.
Christian Hall is producing …And Then She Was Gone on behalf of Two Independent Eyes, while Justin Kohlas will executive produce through his KimberMark banner. Riccardo Maddalosso (Armageddon Time) is also on board as an executive producer.
