In over three years at Collider, senior author Jake has now penned over 2500 articles covering a wide range of TV and film for the resources, lists, utilities, news, and interview teams. Alongside interviewing stars such as Selin Hizli, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Harlan Coben, and Chelsea Peretti, Jake was lucky enough to visit the set of Aardman and Netflix's Wallace and Gromit: A Vengeance Most Fowl in 2024, getting the chance to chat with four-time Academy Award winner Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham. Jake has also worked for other publications, including Agents of Fandom

A fantasy tale featuring a monster-hunting warrior destined to outlive most around him. If you think that sounds like The Witcher, you'd be right, but it is also a description for the forgotten and critically panned 2015 movie, The Last Witch Hunter. Although some suspect inspiration may have been taken from The Witcher, Vin Diesel's Kaulder in The Last Witch Hunter is, in fact, based on his own Dungeons & Dragons character, Melkor, with the actor a well-known lover of the tabletop role-playing game. If you're intrigued and would love to see more, you're in luck, as The Last Witch Hunter is about to become much easier to watch.

As of February 1, 2026, you'll be able to stream The Last Witch Hunter on Plex. Although the premise is enticing and the promise of a D&D-inspired character will draw many eyes, it's important to note just how panned this 2015 fantasy flick was. Boasting just 44% from audiences and a dire 17% from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, many dubbed the movie one of the worst of 2015, with the consensus on the site reading, "Grim, plodding, and an overall ill fit for Vin Diesel's particular charms, The Last Witch Hunter will bore and/or confuse all but the least demanding action-fantasy fans." This is perhaps a harsh take on a film that presents several fun moments, with the synopsis for The Last Witch Hunter reading:

"The modern world holds many secrets, the most astounding being that witches still live among us. Centuries ago, Kaulder (Vin Diesel) managed to slay the all-powerful Witch Queen, decimating her followers in the process. Before her death, she cursed the valiant warrior with her own immortality, separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Her resurrection now threatens the survival of the human race as Kaulder, the only one of his kind remaining, faces her vengeful wrath."

Did 'The Last Witch Hunter' Strike a Box Office Chord?

Certainly affected by the poor initial reviews, The Last Witch Hunter also failed to make any lasting box office impression. Produced for a reported $80 million, the movie made just 1.6 times this investment with a global haul of $130 million. Split between $27 million in domestic revenue and a further $103 million from overseas markets, The Last Witch Hunter failed to even crack the 50-highest-grossing movies of 2015 worldwide.

The Last Witch Hunter is streaming on Plex this February. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
